Unbelievable how dry we have been. Got an amazing amount of the farm burned towards the end of the season and it seems like it has hardly rained since. Got a record amount of rice planted but bayou is too salty so we can't sell the farmer water. Will need to catch all his rice runoff or get some real rain or we won't have water for teal season in the marsh or farm.

This is a project that I never thought would happen. Battling invasive cattail in the marsh with real equipment. Will be spraying this weekend to nuke anything that has popped its head up over the last few weeks. Amazing transformation of a hole that felt a lot tighter than the picture suggests.

I am afraid that all this cracked dry ground will make the cattail go crazy once it gets hit with rain. Maybe it will all come at once and re flood which will stop the growth.

I am seeing this as a once in a 5-10 year opportunity to get into some of these areas. One rainfall event could end the opportunity so we are circling the wagons to get as much done as possible.

Could be. Or maybe you'll get lucky and dormant Walter's millet will pop in the cracks...

I'd be filling those cracks with millet seed

That looks fun. I own a small dozer with wide track swamp pads and can’t help but wonder if I could do a bunch of work for duck hunters if it stays dry.

The dozer work was about a month and a half ago. At that time it was as dry as anyone had ever seen it (30+ years). We went out there today to put in some new individual pits and it was much worse. Drove our trucks and trailers right up to the mound where the blinds are being put in and didn't even leave indentions in the crust.

AWESOME! Love this kind of work.
