Meanwhile, our marsh right across the tree line shown around and after the 3min mark is flat barren by comparison. Ducks beget ducks.

Drying up the feed lots seems to work.

What if the only water available now are the $$ feed lots?

If I posted those videos on FB Northern hunters would be lobbying to shut Louisiana down, and so it goes...

That likelihood, which hadn't previously occurred to me, helped get me through the first coat of flocking on a dozen of them yesterday. (Which plus the "close enough" trial decoy, adds up to the odd number we old pros know has special powers.) Expect to flock them again today for longer term durability and let them cure until after the little weather event you've promised before painting.

Rain tomorrow it appears, hoping does you right, though plainly the fowl are loving the just-enough-water condition prevailing across your corner.

Look forward to seeing the finished product on here, and in person after Christmas. Save us a few of those whistle ducks to call on, in the mean time.

Funny to hear Clark’s excitement in the video as I picture him trying to get his device to start recording

Finished the second and final flocking coat on my specks a couple days ago and nearly chanced today's unsettled weather to do their brown airbrushing that will be the most time consuming but chickened out and settled for repainting my little handful of drake jacks, instead. While deadly on jacks in the rice, they've not shown pecans in the mudhole, but it was something ducky to do.

Plan to take a deer rifle for a boat ride in the marsh tomorrow morning and will probably brush my boat hide's wire top with Blindgrass bundles while I'm out there to put that behind me and feel like I've accomplished something if no deer trips up. Getting to be a long countdown to the opener...

Didn't see a deer but did see quite a few woodies along with some teal following the open water south of my blind, Oddly, didn't see any squealers crossing our more easterly marsh, much less my end. Did find a mess of mottleds and woodies in the back pond - both times I ran its silting in run.

Glassing across the Cherry Ridge treeline showed it's still the "in place" for ducks to be.

Have a youth hunt Saturday, so I spent this morning brushing my blind with just enough birds passing on my end to make it pleasant work. And there was always a show of some sort to watch at the more easterly blinds while making brush hauls. Sixth and final time I passed Gabe's big pond I noticed that the birds swarming it seemed to be landing behind me, yet again. So I turned around and went back for a little video:

Rick - send me 24 well trained decoying ducks on Saturday, and another 24 well trained decoying ducks for Sunday. With all the ducks you showed in the video you should be able to find me 48 ducks - Thanking you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Just incredible, especially being the SIXTH pass

Plainly blue wings responded well to the wet prairies, hoping others did as well

Finding 24 ducks is probably within my current power. Getting them trained, much less "well" remains to be seen...

But I can dang sure wish you the best of luck with your weekend venture.

Time's crawling this week. Worked on one of our boats yesterday afternoon and used a "test drive" to deploy my newly flocked and painted speck decoys at the mudhole. Most thankfully, they look better on the flotant at distance than close-up hanging in the shed.

Blind still looks fine, ie: like it's not a blind, but the predicted weekend weather should put wind-slowed big ducks overhead or tight around the west corner of a blind with guests who, more often than not, will make no effort to help hide themselves - at best. So I've one more trip to make with some extra-long canes with fluffy beige tops to, hopefully, make a shell game of picking out excited faces.

Can't resist meeting LST at the blind with that load - just to see...

Thanks. That gives me some ideas on helping hide my wife better. Even with the mask she moves more than is beneficial. She's having fun, so I really don't want to fuss.

At least she'll wear a mask, most folks won't. I generally drop increasingly heavier hints about hiding and how to watch without getting caught, and then either give up or threaten to point fingers and name names - depending on the party's demeanor. Can't help the experts.

Area around the mudhole was mighty barren this morning, which isn't unusual these days. Didn't run to the back blind to see if its usual mottled and woodie contingent was present, but jacks and teal were swarming the east blinds, as is their norm. No worries, of course, as opening weekend guns should send us plenty of game. (Pound timber.)

While it would have been nice to see big duck traffic or, better, a deer, I was most anxious to see how heavy morning dew made my flocked specks look against the rising sun. That answer is "frosty". Not white, but fuzzy, which I'd like to think is better than their previous glare. "We'll see..."
