The coyotes must be prepping for the snow as I’ve seen four of them in the last 30 minutes. All pretty spooky.

One of the things I looked forward to back when waterfowling was religion and our region flat buzzed with related activity the day before was the coyotes singing in celebration that evening. No question they understood the morrow was Thanksgiving and Christmas rolled into one.

We are now in the 18 to 24 inch zone. It’s a small zone but snow amounts seem to be increasing everywhere

Guessing we received over a foot of snow. Pretty hard to tell because it got windy. Some pretty good drifts out in the fields and in the tree rows though. For it to be truly beneficial it’ll have to be a quick milk for fast runoff to fill things in.

Received another 2 inches of snow yesterday. Started off to be a little wetter but then it dried out. Right now they’re saying next Wednesday and Thursday we could get another 3 to 5 inches. We leave next Friday for South Dakota so hoping for driving and also hoping for the ducks the bulk of that system goes up into Canada.

Ian has been getting stuck and running a giant snow blower up in Canada. He's ready for winter to be over.

Seeing more and more pairs of hands every day.

The power of the sun is amazing! High temperatures for the last four days have been 15°, 18°, 18°, and 25° yesterday. Well below freezing but with the bright sun the snow is melting. This is good news for upland birds but not for the ducks. Today’s high is supposed to be around 30° and then tomorrow 34 or 36°. If it’s bright and sunny like they are forecasting we will lose more snow than we need to.

Woke up yesterday till about 3 or 4 inches of fluff. Won’t do it much for the ducks. Today at work I did notice that both fox are still around.

This should cause some melting and possibly good runoff. Might even see some white birds

Looks like a pretty potent storm coming on Tuesday for central, south central and the eastern part of the state. Areas that don’t need the snow. We could use that up here, the western part of the state and north into Canada.

I’ve been trying to Will them northward as I’ve watched the national forecast. No luck so far.

Unfortunately this has the makings of a flyby when it comes to snows especially when there’s not much to stop them north of me in Canada! This will promote rapid melting which hopefully will fill some potholes! Better get the fishing poles ready!

Honkers started migrating in again today. Figured I’d stop and take a picture of some. Also saw a few murders of crows. Was dodging pheasants and huns on the way home. At least in my area looking like a very good winter survival rate!

Know there's birds in there, but it's the open space that catches my eye.

West Nile virus wiped out the crows that used to turn whole sections black. We still have crows but nowhere near the numbers from b4 west Nile.
You're not shooting the honker geese with a rifle....yet?
Kids shoot them with 22s here.

Damn near moved there for the huns during my uplands-first phase. But my last pointing dog's long buried and most upland interest gone with him.

'Sides, you folks pay for that space with winters I can live out my life without revisiting.

There was a roadkill pheasant we saw yesterday. Was the first one I'd seen in decades.
Modern farming is hell on them.

Not coming down too hard but there are some decent puddles out on the road. We will take it!
