Beautiful Marsh. Once upon a time the marsh we hunt now looked like that.

Not all that fired up about blazing our walk-in trail to this blind again for big duck season but it's most efficient way to access this location once you've got a path. Leave a pirogue and decoys in the marsh near blind, can essentially run the flat boat empty (save for guys, gear, dog) to and from camp.

With all your recent work, know you're also knockin' wood til knuckles bleed over there.

Local met mentioned a "cool front" yesterday evening for this weekend so got me curious to check for myself. Sure enough.

Nothing that'll do much to cool us off down here, but plenty enough to move early season birds so timing a week out from opening day with a moon waxing toward full should do us well nonetheless.

Delta's optimistic

Ponds up, predators down, we hunt the fall flight, not the BPOP

Habitat huh? That's so far off my radar. Only possess a few coins.

The National Wildlife Refuge holds birds year round.
More show up but that flyup I film is like that every day.

Front looking good for right after the teal opener weekend, and we may be desperate for it given the seemingly low numbers on hand today but 5 days away from loading guns.

Moon is building this week so we'll hope it does us well with new arrivals. Pre-fabbed a dog stand for new blind this morning and gathered up some gear so regardless of sightings, we'll be prepared to give it hell this weekend.

It's a really nice video. The fuge has a 'media" selection that would load (embed) that video only from FB. It allows for a wider range of video upload then we have here.

moon... I have it bad when it's bright at night.
The ducks can see the refuge from ten miles away and they fly before you can shoot. At LST it's over.
Sigh. I pray for low clouds that are stacked to the ionosphere.
No mooon for me thanks.

In regular season, I entirely agree, I avoid the big moon like the plague unless its covered up good all night.

But during teal season, I'm OK with a big moon to move them down.

Looks like front next week is going to be legit, for better or worse for our teal season purposes

Scouted early, often, long and late today in our stomping grounds only to put eyes on a lone blue wing paling around with a pair of mottleds. Total seen: 5 mottleds, 1 teal, from lease, to the furthest extent of the nearby public grounds, burned 3/4 tank of gas in trying.

Nonetheless, boat is loaded up and we're opting to hit two different locations tomorrow with the four of us hunting. Dinner was top notch, bite off the dock is good and we're doing just fine. Hoping big moon outside has some new birds on the move. Good luck out there, gang.

The teal survey sure paints a grim picture of your end of our state, hope you prove them wrong. And that this morning proves my own observations on this end wrong. Am hanging on tight to our historical, "when the shooting starts" view.

A full on two weeks out, but dang that's some awfully stout influx of cold where we'd need it. It's the first run to show it, so not at all consistent, but glad to see it even remotely possible. Regardless, fun to follow this time of year as we'll be soon eyeing weather to move the big birds.

For better or worse, no sign of any more fronts making it down through the south next week and through end of the short teal season. If anything, it just looks hot. Important to also note that the tropics are still alive and well it seems.

Darren I saw this morning the GFS, EURO, and CMC all have a system in the gulf in about 10 days. Assume your hawk eye is all over it but wanted to give you a heads up if not.

Yep, following closely, run by run, thanks for chiming in though. GFS even showing one behind that one on same line, for now at least! Will be something to watch for a couple weeks for sure.

Will have the people of Florida in mind this week with the impending storm looking to be showing on their doorstep in a few days, surely don't wish that on anyone. We're instead blessed with a legit end of Sept cool front that should move birds for us and bring much needed relief to summer heat.

Note to log, local rice belt outfitter in SW La reported first speck sighting over the weekend with a little bunch of 5 cruising along. Not sure if link works for all, but it's below if you're just dying to see five geese in Cajun country.

Start hanging gator hooks tomorrow, but I'll gladly trade what it might cost us in nearly worthless tatailles for a bit of storm deflection.

Model backed off of that last night after a couple of runs in a row showing it, will be something to watch (good thing to watch, for once) in coming days. Sooooo much prefer tracking fronts than storms.

46 Here in Central La. this morning. 47 forecasted in the morning. Undoubtedly the nicest stretch of weather here in the last several years for late September early October. Zero chance of rain for the entire 15 day forecast.

Upper 50's here the past few mornings, and what a relief!!!!!!!! So ready for the grass to stop growing, humidity to drop, and the water temps to cool. Same here with the 0% chance of rain, which should help shrimp nursery in our delta, hopefully, with some Speckled trout following. Last fall, the trout never made it North of our causeway because of the heavier than normal upstate rains that just kept coming.
