Where I hunt will be icy too but deep and with a bit of current where once you break open a hole it sort of self sweeps the ice to the side.
What I do is come late after the fleet of boats has cleared a lane. Much less stress. Hope you find a wet spot to hunt or can make one.

Hoping this bodes well for the breeding grounds/PPR, looks like snowfall is above average so far this winter.

Thought this was thought-provoking, coming from Arky hunters' perspective.

Absolutely. More than just pressure working against them here, but I can't help but think that's a LARGE part of it.

Particularly since we've documented the same phenomenon they're noting, thus debunking the "they dont come anymore" narrative to a degree. Telemetry tells us, oh, they came, then we pressured the hell out of them and they headed back north for some peace. Sure, the bulk of the migrating population doesn't it make it here as before, but for those that do......they regret it if they live to.

I got tangled up in that GD grape vine in Arkansas enough times to establish a pattern.
Them guys escout themselves silly.
They were texting me this week-end trying to get pointed to where the shooting is.
It's tempting to play their little game, post pics of some ducks, and send them to the north woods on a wild goose chase.

The way it works. If the ducks are at rainy brake today...they're gone tomorrow so there's no point in the grape vine e-scouting.
It used to work.
Those days are over.
If wma-x has a shootout the pics hit the web fast but the ducks fly off that night and go to wma-y.
Scouting by gunfire is dumb as hell.
