I uploaded them to my Youtube account. This guy is from Wisconsin. I'm not sure where exactly he was hunting. Go to full screen.
Big bunches of GW all day, he said. They're on the way!!

Blake and I made a weekend at the camp and did well on crabs and redfish. I took a borrowed drone down there and took a few photos this morning. This is one of those which has our blind area in view in the center of the photo. We are high and dry. I was afraid to let it get too far out of sight as I'm not sure of its max range. I may let it go a little further south this weekend after I do a little research on this unit.

The pictures below were taken by a couple of young guys that actually launched a boat at our place while we were there. He was trying to get to his blind on property to our east, far south near the gulf. I explained to him our location and asked for pictures.

Our boat hide is on the far right in these pictures. Just add water. He said he made it to his blind. His grandfather owns the property his blind is on, and he crabs that area. He has 2k of crab pots (traps) stranded in that marsh. Some of those are on our lease property.

It is. Hoping for a wet winter and spring to bring that place back to life. I see wigeon grass in my future.

Awesome technology to get a birds-eye view Dave, but know the current view is disheartening. Thank God for crabs and shrimp!!!!!
Took my bride for a boat ride Saturday, and threw a bag of chicken leg qtrs in the box for crabs. Ended up catching 4 dz crabs on the chicken, and a handful of white trout and ground mullet on grubs. Did not see a single duck!

We cooked a few crabs in a "stew" at the camp when we got back. So darn good. We had to cull through big bull reds to get a good eating size fish. My abdomin was sore that evening fighting those darn things.

Been knowing about that but doesn't mean I have to like it. Early season mottleds are perfect for a kid's first duck and of course only get smarter as season progresses.
Put a pair in the decoys (twice) last Saturday on youth hunt, was wishing my 11 yr old could’ve shot at one

I of course made that point of contention, then our mottleds nearly didn't show at all save for one pair skirting us Saturday morning. I'm presuming the high water scattered them elsewhere, hope they come back for around Thanksgiving, or whatever date that magic 16th day of season will fall on

Bad weekend. I made it to the camp early on Friday afternoon and Blake had left work at 5 pm. He called me in route, and I was on the phone with him on blue tooth when this happened. He had just turned onto a country road and was slowly accelerating. There were two cars approaching him when the rear vehicle turns into his lane to pass. He had no time to react, and they collided. All three vehicles were involved at that point. I had heard some unusual noises when this happened then his says " Crap! I've been in an accident". Then he starts yelling HELP ME! Help ME! as he is trying to get out of the vehicle, which I know now was when the fire started. Some guys from other vehicles and the house he was in front of forced the door open and drug him out across the road away from the truck. I stayed connected in the call to his phone for maybe 8 to 10 minutes waiting to hear back from him. When I heard the sirens, I hung up immediately and called his brother to tell him what was up. In that time, he had already received a call from one of the fire rescue guys which just happened to be the brother of one of Blakes coworkers. That was the most intense, nerve-wracking, helpless feeling, phone call I've ever had.

He had deep to the bone lacerations on one leg and is bruised from neck to toes. His blood pressure kept dropping so they did surgery to find and stop the leak, which was a damaged vein or artery in his abdomen, which they cauterized. I visited him this morning and he's now stabilized and alert with pain only if he moves. We talked for a while about the accident and of course of our water situation at the lease. He will have surgery again tomorrow to remove a lot of coagulated blood from the soft tissue and muscle which have separated in his abdomen. He has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He will be hospitalized this entire week possibly longer.

On brighter note, the large landowner of the property with the control gate agreed to open the gates and allow a shallow flood of saltwater with the intentions of raising and flushing the marsh with rainwater throughout the winter and spring. We had a heavy rain on Friday afternoon which lasted an hour and a half, with more lighter showers on Saturday. Forecast is for heavy rain Monday afternoon into Tuesday. I'll be back down in the marsh next weekend to check on the water level and hopefully get a chance to make it out to the blind to get it prepped.

Praying he makes a full recovery.

Hate to read that Dave. I’ve been in your shoes on a phone call like that when a wreck happened and it’s excruciating not knowing what’s going on. Prayers for a full recovery for Blake.

Can only imagine your feeling of helplessness on the call Dave, and glad Blake made it through, albeit, cut up and banged up! That looks like one helluva lick to the front end of his truck :o Praying for his recovery brother!

Thanks for all of the comments and prayers. Blake had the clean up surgery and is doing well today. He was able to get out of bed and stand up. He and the physical therapist will be talking some walks for the remainder of the week. He still has a drain in his abdomin and will keep that for a couple of weeks.
All of his belongings were retrived from his truck today, including his gun and blind bag. His new waders even came out unscathed.

My blind partner Blake is also the first born son of my oldest, deceased sister. He turend 45 last month.

Glad to hear Blake's recovery is progressing. I always assumed he was your son, and based on your hunting together, sure seemed that way. Glad you two are so close, and I know he appreciates having an uncle that enjoys spending time in the blind together.

My son would be with us in the blind but his busy raising 6 of my grandchildren, ages 2 to 8. Seems they took a break for a couple of years. The 2-year-old is a boy after 5 girls.
