Anything but drought busting, but hope it does someone some good. Probably been less than a tenth of an inch at my house with this so far. Heavy on wind, light on precip

Camp A/C wasn't blowing cool so had a tech come out this morning who thankfully was able to get it squared away pretty reasonably and brought news of a report of good teal numbers seen in area of marsh we'll be headed to next weekend from there. Report is pretty 3rd and 4th hand given it was relayed by my dad, but we'll take it !

Weather passed above us, doubt we've caught a half inch from the past two systems.

GFS continues to hint at some form of legit cool front for late next week into the weekend, accompanied by pretty decent line of rain. Will be something to keep watching but seems to be gaining some consistency. After that, though? Hinting at typical October, and no rain for a while, grrrrr.

Sure enough, everyone's buying in over the weekend and looking ahead to late this week into next weekend. Likely to be some specks on the move, and for those that were holding teal.....seeing them leave. Unfortunately, not whole lot of rain coming through with it.

Perhaps most importantly, though, after this cool spell, the 90s appear gone for the foreseeable, and hopefully for the season.

We're of course all fired up for this first legit front blowing through later today into the evening. But dont look just yet, another one starting to gain consensus for next Friday into the following weekend.

Bring on the front trains. Has seemed to be a little later than the last few years for fronts making it down to us.

Saw several bunches of teal and a fair herd of spoons this morning on what had been barren (aside from shorebirds) ag land water.

Supposed to be a doozy on its way with temps in the low 40's on Sunday and Monday in Central La. Specs should be coming with it!

Sounds about right. Little strange to not hear even 4th hand rumors of speck sightings in SW La during teal season, especially one that went all the way to month's end.

Hoping the sightings are coming in over this weekend with the front settling in and north winds gettin' it!

This morning the models still showing a good one next weekend......and further out, thus less reliably, another soon after. Pattern appears to be changing significantly, allowing for the troughs that let weather down from the north rather than blocking it with high pressure like we had alllllllll dang summer.

I've been watching that as well but with less enthusiam than in years past due to our water situation. I really doubt that we'll have water to hunt his year. I've heard tell of flooding with salt water as a last resort, but I'd rather miss the season than have that happen. The benifits of keeping the salt water out of that marsh far out weigh hunting ducks this season.

I’m hearing rumors of a possible blob of moisture crossing over from the pacific to the gulf end of this week. Fingers crossed for you guys.

Yea its showing on some forecasts but unfortunately trending mostly along the coast, can only hope maybe it does DC and Rick some good but not much for anyone north of that last I saw.

On a more interesting note, models are really bullish on not only next weekend's front, but abnormally cool temps sticking for the foreseeable thereafter with follow up fronts instead of warming back to upper 80's like is on tap later this week.

Wow, hadn't heard a peep from that crew lately, but that's not unusual. Hope the rains do some folks at least a little bit of good tomorrow.

Dunno, noticed wunderground has dialed its earlier all day prediction down. May at least sweeten some of the brackish stuff being pumped a bit.

Rain's falling here in BR....but pavement is hardly what I'd call "wet," with "damp" even a stretch so far.

What Louisiana is this!? Surely not the one I was born into almost, BUT NOT YET, 40 yrs ago.

This morning's GFS telling us dont even think about another drop until maybe next Friday the 20th when another front is showing signs of coming through.

Same for here in Mobile. Looking at Weather Underground, and I keep waiting for the light, intermittent sprinkle to pick up, but it hasn't here so far. Looks like some areas around us got a little more than we did, but that isn't saying much.

It's drizzled here in Central La. for the better part of 10 hours now. Totals however can't be any more than 3/4".

We got a whopping .25" at the farm here. Forecast shows us with 6 straight sunny days. Time to get the blinds installed in the fields that underwent rehabilitation.

Yea pretty widespread 0.25 inch to maybe 0.5 inch for much of La above I-10, probably 0.5 inch at my house in BR but some areas not too far away got over 2" when some bands set up on them. Likely did me a little good around the house but not whole lot for people's hunting interests.

As alluded to on PorkChop's log, models trying to show a pretty huge front for late next week. Wouldn't bet on it right now but fun to watch in the coming few days to see if it gains support

Little man and I headed up to bunkie area farm yesterday morning to check on things and hoped for lucking into a speck sighting or hearing. Specks were no-shows but got some cleaning done in the camp, checked heater, checked pit, etc. Cover around blind looking promising for us after there was largely none earlier this summer after the field work.

Field work now done, but water situation seems a bit sketchy moving forward. Talked to farmer who was after some hogs in the area, sounds like he's hopeful to get us water on this cut alone but not any time soon as he's struggling right now to get water on his rice stubble for crawfish. Water was nearby, just one cut away, so hopefully the ease of logistics plays in our favor as opener gets closer. Most ricer stubble had water on it and pumps were rolling throughout the area. With no rice and thus no crawfishing on this cut, we're last in line so not exactly holding our breath.

IMG_2636.JPG

new water control weir now in place, has plastic slats for level control instead of the old warped, wooden board we had
IMG_2642.JPG

New treeline levee/road was major effort over summer, came out really nice and brings easy access to what we never had before
IMG_2646.JPG

All set, just need water.....easier said than done this year as most know
IMG_2649.JPG

With things tightened-up up there, will get back to focus on the marsh and readying for youth hunt Nov 4th and opener a week later. Hoping fronts have the early migrators on the move, bring on the grays ! Full moon on the 28th could coincide with a pretty big front if what models are sniffing ends up playing out. That's usually the timing they really start showing for us.

Weather systems are happening, they're just fizzling out as they make it down to LA. Not all that mad to see Iowa, MO, NE and KS dry though.

Going to be a couple of days later in getting through down here than originally thought so looking like it'll be a Halloween event, but looking more and more likely she gets all the way down.

Here she is, Halloween at noon just getting in. Will be watching to see if timing wiggles a bit more but overall looking good

Also pretty excited of the prospect of first winter storm of the breeding grounds coinciding with the full moon this weekend, head on down!
