Depends on the weather/ground conditions. If field's dry enough for machinery, they'll "drill" it, no-ll or worked. If it's too wet to drill without cutting ruts, they'll fly it on.

Not in the rice belt in the slightest so I really had no idea how they did it.

It was interesting driving back from Florida. We drove the entire 300+ miles from the IL/KY border to my house in Joliet. Almost every field had a tractor rolling in it. It's that time of year for us.
