DC, I think you would like to experience yesterday's quail hunt, today not so much... But I understand...
It's not the days of old by any means...

January 30th, Tuesday 2024
Moe and I hunted Quail...
1 Bobwhite Quail...
IMG_20240130_122259352_HDR~2.jpg

It was hot, I didn't carry enough water (and did not run into any tanks to replenish)...
Missed two singles in some cedar trees (paid full price for the boasting)...

Ended with 19 one shy of possession limit, also lost one today we couldn't find...
Our best to date, we might be getting better?
Sure does feel good to be home, we're tired...

Assuming you choose a sane one, I'd not think it too poorly timed. Have had good luck getting late January pups ready to hunt come September. (Still wondering if my manic September pup will be ready by then next fall...)

Too better explain my "not perfect timing"...
I think Trigger will be fine hunting next year (with medication) and probably the next?
So better timing would be a puppy next year or the next... This ltter of puppies has the bloodlines of all the dogs that I've hunted with throughout the years, so I can't pass it up...

It is Rick, and I think most things happen to me for a reason?

Long story (that I'll try to shorten) but I had no intentions of keeping Trigger(her mother Teal was doing just fine)... Had a friend with a young son that I was going to give Trigger to after I trained her, never told a soul about my intentions... My thinking was it if I couldn't make Trigger a good dog I wouldn't give her to them and no one would have had their hopes up... My intentions were to get her through her first year, but before we were finished, father and son get a brand new puppy they tell me about... Hmm secret plan didn't work out very good...
By then, Trigger had a pretty sweet spot in my heart, and things worked out just fine in the end (some might say it was meant to be)...

Exciting times 5stand! How old is Trigger? Agree on January puppy being best timing. I got mine in October and regretted it. She picked up some bad habits early due to my neglect during hunting season. Would’ve had more time February going forward.

Thank you very much, Buddy
Trigger is 6 years old, born August 19th 2017...
"Exciting times" the more time that goes by the more exciting it becomes... Agree on the time of year, mentioned that to DC earlier when he talked about getting his new puppy...

I sure can relate to that internet sanity thing also...
When I read " Olive is doing great free and clear to exercise again" I know it's my cliche but I put one of those of Vinny Quack grins on, in my mind...
Thanks for the update Buddy, pretty sure Olive couldn't have a better owner.

I do appreciate the compliment on my pups, we had a big time and that's what matters...

New puppy day !
All she has known is concrete and chain link so we've been exploring...
IMG_20240330_180740384~2.jpg

She has picked a spot in the middle of one of the big beds and it feels so much better than that concrete, write it down, she has officially moved in...
Think we're going to call her Taco...

Let the games begin. Never can help but think, "They look so innocent."

Tickled to see she has an inherent eye for cover.

If she's going to retrieve blinds, it's good that you're teaching her to put them back up.

The weather has been warm and I've been trying something new with Taco, she has been living on the carport with the door open to the laundry room so she can go in and out on her own... The weather has turned cold so we have moved into the laundry room and practiced using the doggie door this afternoon... We'll see, what kind of accidents I have to clean up in the morning...
Bought toys for her, but her favorite's are that shotshell box and two by two underneath it, the ones she chose...

Moe and Trigger are kinda sorta getting use to her...

She looks tiny, but I'm betting Dave is marveling at that unshredded shell box as much as I am.

It's probably just the picture, I don't think she is but I haven't weighed her... She wasn't the littlest one of the bunch...

She's a little sweetheart, there were four females left when I got there and she picked me, is the easiest way that I can describe it... So I brought her home...

Puppies are hard enough, your posts make me feel so bad, for you... I don't even know what to say (which I haven't), hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel, and you're telling us about how great she is in a year (or by the Fall)...
