I'm pulling my hair out.......

Puppies are hard enough, your posts make me feel so bad, for you... I don't even know what to say (which I haven't), hopefully there's light at the end of the tunnel, and you're telling us about how great she is in a year (or by the Fall)...

It's really not all that bad. She's coming around and we're doing fine. I introduced her to whistle sit and the three burst "here" yesterday afternoon and she did great. We're on our way.

Taco went to the vet today and received her second set of shots, she weighed 17 .1 pounds, will be 11 weeks old tomorrow... I know 11 weeks probably doesn't fit into your calculations Rick, but I don't think she's tiny ?

I was curious so I googled it:
"Labrador puppies typically weigh between 10 and 20 lb at 8 to 12 weeks. A general rule of thumb is that your puppy should gain about 2 lb per week up to 6 months old"

I think we're right on track ?
Tacos mother is small, but her father Gus is big 90 lb dog... I hope she turns out to be about Triggers size, right at 70 lb...

Fun to post that sort of thing on a dog board and watch it explode.

So true Rick, the internet seems to think in black or white, no gray area... I also understand their concern...
Hopefully the folks that read it know me in my relationship with my dogs... The devil's in the details you can't take one of my one-liners and use it as dog training advice... Tacos probably been out there 10 times bye now, we start out a long way from the actual gunfire... No one's usually there on Fridays, so we've been cleaning up some underbrush and making a couple new stations for the sporting Clay course...

Lots of ways to train a dog, but I've found judicious use of an, initially distant, clays range to go a long way towards not having a dog "gun conditioned" by the approved method bolt for the trucks when first it hears a multiple gun volley - or hide under the bed on the 4th.

In the "Don't try this at home, kids." column, this was Peake's first (of 36 that afternoon) working retrieve at 7-months:

and this is the mob that shot it for him:

(Also make a point of thunder conditioning mine similarly by taking the wee ones out to play in the yard as soon as storms are heard approaching. Though that creates the tradeoff of a cowering dog for one anxious to go out in nasty weather...)

Off-season boasting...
We have a new guy on Wednesday nights an electrician friend of mine and he wanted to shoot some registered targets so I've joined in with him the last couple years... This year I've posted some decent scores this spring so decided to enter the Arkansas State sporting Clay shoot... Was the best in the state this particular weekend, I've done it before but I didn't know I still had it in me (don't let the old man in)...
