Not much difference in the St. Louis weather but the differences in Bismark then 56/57 and now are very different for November and December. I'd be interested in seeing what it was in 1999/2000.

You can look at the temps in the link I posted. Just pick the year. I just don't see a weather trigger that would've pushed those birds. It may be more of a population thing.

It's odd that they moved en masse 3 years in a row...I bet Coastal Marsh hunting was unforgettable!

2010-2o11 and 2011-2012 were both banner mallard years, the likes of which we'd not seen since '99-2000, for us, but I've long credited drought throughout much of the flyway for pushing them to us. Might be "mis-remembering" the cause but not that we shot them over a literal mud slurry:

2010/2011 there was a drought, for us for sure. We were at the Marceaux farm and no one was flooding due to salt water intrusion. We had water and had a pretty good time of it. If I'm not mistaken that was the season with the Thanksgiving mallard swarm for us.

Dont think I've caught that one yet but catching up a bit on their late and end-of-season postings, I usually enjoy their perspective, though dont always align with their thoughts. Will try to catch it this week
