Dead is dead. .243 shoots plenty flat, kicks less, ammo can be found everywhere, and it is cheaper to shoot.

The difference is how far they run before they are dead. I hate tracking, especially through a thicket or heavy undergrowth.

Google 6 mm Tomkat and kattraker.

6 mm is a great cartridge.

6mm vs .243 on recoil? looking to pick up one or the other for my wife.

Check out a 7mm08 more power than the others and kicks like a 20ga semi auto at the most.

very close, .243 ammo is much more available. 6mm is cool because its the underdog ;)

7-08 has a smaller brass than the 6mm but delivers a fair amount more trauma to a deer from what I've seen, probably the best white tail caliber

.243 is less, 6mm is tough to find ammo for. As with any gun, shot placement is key.

She could probably handle a .30-06, but I don't want to have her have a bad experience and be totally turned off from shooting.

If you read those posts you would learn that I am one of the biggest proponents of he 6 mm Remington you will ever meet.

Bulldog I have loaded my own for many years. Never a problem to get ammo.

Yeah I'm not set up for reloading or I'd probably go with one of those crazy calibers.

.25-06 is better than 6mm, and is more readily available. Although still not as much as .243

There is a 50% chance you are wrong about that.

When you say 6 mm ammo is not readily available it tells me you have not seen the TomKat ammo supply. You have to have a certain level of commitment to a caliber before you can really be stocked up. Lets just say I have been shooting the same batch of 6 mm bullets I bought in 2001. That includes 4 multi day trips to dog towns. You just gotta be prepared to stock up.

The 25 06 has very good ballistic co efficient.
So does the 6mm Remington.

No shortage of 6mm ammo around here.

Maybe for deer. But does the deer really know your superior .25-06 killed him, or a .243? Dead is dead, the rest of this is details.
From what I can remember, there is not a shot over 300 yards in the entire state of Maryland.

If you are going to shoot 300 rounds in a dog town, you would prefer the 6MM....
