Time for an upgrade

So I am thinking about upgrading from my .243 to something that shoots a little flatter, and wondering what I should buy. I have narrowed it down to 2 choices: .257 Weatherby Mag, or 7mm Remington mag. I mostly hunt Mulies, Blacktails, pigs, and coyotes, and I am going on an antelope hunt in a couple years. I don't foresee any elk hunting in my imminent future. My dad has a .257 Weatherby and we reload those rounds so if I buy that we will just keep buying the same stuff, but if I buy the 7mm rem mag he only has to neck down my empty casings to .257 and he already has the dies for that. Price of the rifle is not an issue, so please don't vote based on that.

How about a .25-06 Remington? They shoot plenty flat, or maybe something more unusual to the general public like a 6.5-284 Norma. If you want 7mm performance without the recoil, get a .280 AI. I had a .257 and never cared for it; just a lot of blast over 300 FPS more over a .25-06 Remington. Just my thought.

Not many calibers shoot flatter than a .243

The 25-06 would be a better choice than the 7mm mag.

If he's already set up for it 100%, that's a no brainer. Then you would have to mess with necking down or other equipment. 7 mag would be overkill for pig and coyote anyways.

Brass is readily available from Nosler. Plus it's a little cheaper brass wise than Weatherby brass is.

We already neck down 7 mag brass because is cheaper than buying Weatherby brass.

Smart move there, FYI, at MT Outdoor Sports, the guy has a galore of .270 Wby brass once fired for dirt cheap if that has any sort of interest.

And I won't be getting rid of the .243, so I don't know why I mentioned pigs and coyotes.

.243 is plenty for what you're going to be hunting.

I just wanted to see if Gaddy was awake. I dont care alot about wssm but dont really care what anyone shoots. I used a 3006 to kill my bear and 12 ga slugs on some wild hogs. To each their own

The WSSM line up was an epic fail by Winchester.

Manufacturers are always looking for something new to sell. Defenders of the WSSM have quoted impressive ballistic claims. But the gun buying public are a fickle bunch. Based on terms of sales alone it does look like a flop. I know that people who like them REALLY like them. But an overview of the market from a historical perspective indicates they will fade out some day.

It was a good idea but we already have cartridges just like what the WSSM was suppose to recreate basically. And these cartridges have less problems with chambering and feeding.
