A surprise from the back of my grandfathers storage. Anyone able to help me out in some specifics of this muzzle loader? There is not a single proof mark or any mark on this gun. I've been googling but it's hard with just a description. I have come up with zilch. Thanks in advance for anything. Let me know if you need more pics.

Doesn't look like you got a patch box, that would have been my next guess. You know what caliber it is? May be hand made.

No patch box. And it's got a cheek piece. I think it may be a 1 off deal.

Probably. It can't be that old, because it's a cap, not a flintlock. I'd hunt with it, though.

By "that old", I mean it's not from 1790 or something.

If its nothing else, it sure is pretty! Take a set of calipers to the bore and see what size ball it's meant to shoot. Looks bigger than a .50. Maybe .58?

That's my main hope that I will be able to shoot it.
