Teal Season

Date: 9/20/2025 (opening day of a 9-day season)

Direction and Velocity: ENE 5 to 7 mph

Temperature: 77 early then we baked

Moon phase: Not sure

Waterfowl Activity: fairly steady. Singles and pairs with the occasional larger group.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: They just appeared over the decoys. Too much disturbance to work birds.

Hunters: Me and Blake

Malfunctions: None

Dog(s): Not yet

Special Equipment: 2 very old and beat up spinners

Curses: Not being able to hunt my dog. We saw a pretty good-sized gator in our ditch which turned and squared off to us as we passed by.

We started the morning off with a single landing in the decoys maybe ten minutes after LST. Blake and I looked at each other and decided to give it a pass, not wanting it to be the only bird we would take today. Well, for the next 30 minutes or so we had 6 more singles do the same and we passed on all of them. We finally decided to start shooting and Blake jumped the next single and dropped it. Next, we had 3 do it right, over the decoys and I knocked two down. They began coming in pairs and small groups for the remainder of the hunt. We lost two birds that were lively and with our very low water it made it impossible to get close enough for a search. Both made it to an island. We both had to get out of the boat and walk it about 40 yards to a deeper spot. The bottom is still very hard. We were both drenched in sweat after the boat push and decided to call it a hunt after I dropped another single. We called the hunt @ 8:30.

We were visited by a few mottled ducks as well, singles and pairs. I hope most were given a pass today, but I have my doubts.

We did get a limit of shrimp yesterday afternoon. We will try for another today.

Direction and Velocity: Light ENE

Temperature: 77 Same starting temp as yesterday

Moon phase: Not sure

Waterfowl Activity: Saw just a few ones and twos and a couple of high flocks headed south.

Waterfowl Responsiveness: Got to turn a few singles today.

Hunters: Me and Blake

Malfunctions: None

Dog(s): Not yet

Special Equipment: 2 very old and beat up spinners

We had a couple of misses so we should have had a few more. Less teal seen today reported by many in the area.

We took another limit of shrimp yesterday afternoon.

Hunters: Me and Bill

Malfunctions: None

Dog(s): I took Remi to the blind this morning and she did well on the two opportunities. She didn't see the second teal hit the water but worked well on the blind to casts. The first teal was lively and gave her a good taste of what the entails. With our low water I got covered in mud from her shenanigans. I sure hope we get birds this season to give her some experience.

Very quiet this morning with very few shots heard. I haven't heard of anyone down their taking a limit this morning. As Darren Proclaimed, "that's a wrap". We picked up the decoys and came home.

I took another limit of shrimp yesterday afternoon. Size average best yet.

How do you catch the shrimp and what is the limit? Looks like some nice shrimp cocktail there for sure.
