That's about right. They should be on their way back up next year or the year after.
I like early season when all the broods are still grouped up. Nothing like flushing 5 stupid birds all at the same time.

Cut my wingshooting teeth on pheasants but threw them over for grouse. Once ordered my life around Appalachian ruffs and for eight years spent part of most every open season day hunting them, unless I was on the road for other game. Still miss following swift white dogs through the hills...
