Doesn't matter, only shoot em through a borrowed gun.

That will knock a poor dove on its ass.

Cant use 6's for doves here unless it's also pheasant season. The gw will ticket you for using 6's and say you're hunting pheasants out of season. It's strange but that's the way it is.
I use "hot-load" reloads with 7.5's and blast the shit out of the doves.
Try it...
Using them trap n skeet loads is weak.

7.5 steel for doves when at my go to spot. 7 or 8 lead anywhere else for doves. Have been known to shoot them with 3 hevi-shot while duck hunting.

Is this a trick question?
If I am not hunting pheasants I use 7.5's.
The law here...
If I am caught dove hunting in non-pheasant season with 6's the gw will be really nice and ler ME pick what violation I get ticketed for.
I can choose to be ticketed for hunting pheasants out of season or for using wrong size shot on doves.
What would you do?
I use 7.5's when not hunting pheasants or rabbits.

7 1/2s for doves and woodcock and 8s

I might buy 8s for snipe or rail but prefer 7 1/2s for everything else up to and including early season pheasants.

Rick, what's the best way to quickly differentiate between snipe and rail when flushed. Snipe are in season during early goose, but rail are not, is why I ask. I've not pulled the trigger many times, simply because I couldn't tell quickly.

Snipe are noisy as hell here...and tiny. I only shoot them if it gets slow.
