I will get this started, post up some past pics.

Opening day 2011, my britt was 14, this was his last hunt, he went out in style


Last day of season Jan. 2011, this was my labs last hunt. Buck and Moose could really get it done in their day.


My griff Taz's first hunt at 9 mos. last year in Montana. Phez, partridge and sharptail all in the same field. To top it off, earlier that morning I shot my first antelope.

I hope you end up seeing that whole picture. The photographer got the shell ejecting even.

Pic from 4 years or so ago. It was my first WY grouse. We were hunting elk so Kodi wasn't with us. I limited with 3 birds but I can't seem to find a pic with all 3.

I lost a 16 yr old britt earlier this year. she was a damn good dog.

Someday before I die, I want to go pheasant hunting. It has always looked like a lot of fun, just never had the opportunity to do it. Although I must admit, I'm a little afraid I'd mess myself if the bird came busting out just a couple steps away from me.

Come on out to Kansas AT, can make it a combo hunt. One of the cheapest states for non resident hunters, you would also have a guide.

Britts are great dogs, when mine passed last year it was the first time I didn't have a britt in 27 years. I will eventually have another.

I have shot a few pheasants, too.

Assa you can always head down to Ahoskie and shoot them out of a chimney top.

It is definitely something you have to get used to. Pheasant and grouse both do that. Growing up without a dog, you get used to it, but it still tests the strength of your heart the first couple of the season.

Like we've said before, you make it to Kansas City during one of your travels during hunting season, between me, TK and Jarbo, I'm sure we can make a hunt happen.

AT, dont wait until you are too old to do it. Some of those pheasant hunts can be physcialy demanding.

You make it out here we will get you a pheasant.

We kill some here in IL too...

Wow. You've shot emus but no pheasant?!? That's the fun part of working a dog. Waterfowl retrieves are great, but to watch your dog hunt up a pheasant, run the trail down, kick it and then track a wounded bird is about enough to make anyone's day. I always figure with waterfowl she is doing my bidding, pheasants I am doing hers!

We don't have any pheasants here, never really have. Supposedly the soil is deficient in some mineral that the eggs need to properly form and make it to hatch, and since it's not here, we're SOL.

Glad to see the upland page getting some action. AT, the dog work is what really gets me with upland birds. I like watching a good retriever, but they can be trained, a good upland dog can only learn on their own by experience. Watching them figure it out and seeing things start to click is awesome, I still think you need to come hunt with a griff this winter.

This year will be my first ever "guided" hunt and it will be for pheasants. Every year the local gun dog club puts on a free Veterans hunt. They usually ask me to go but the guided thing isn't really my thing, but a friend started working his dog at the club this year so I am gonna go. I love grouse hunting up in the mountains, even with no dog, so I am guessing pheasant will be just as fun.

One question I have...I have no upland gear. I have never liked the look of it. What would be appropriate attire? Maybe I shoild break out the waders and my calls for it:grin:

I like to wear orange so others can see me. Possibly a game vest or strap to carry some birds, beyond that if they don't like what you're wearing, tell them to eff off and hunt elsewhere.

Your gonna need some Filson chaps and vest, I also recommend a vented team berretta or benelli collared shirt crisply ironed, some kind if khaki hat and some yellow lenses. Otherwise you'll look like just some schmuck out shooting pheasant, not an upland hunter.

I've shot a lot of pheasants, just never been on a true pheasant hunt.

After I am done duck hunting at one of the public spots I go, I walk down the trail and pick a couple off....because they release them there lol. Usually get a foot or 2 off the ground before I shoot just because they always take off into the tall grass and I don't have a dog with me to find them.

Jim, you will shit the first time a rooster comes screaming out of the weeds a few steps in front of you. Not when the dog is on point, but the unexpected flush. Its a good thing they are so close because you will need the extra 3 seconds of letting them get out there so you can compose yourself before you shoot.
