Whenever the drought leaves, and nests don't get hammered with hail, they will return.

Chukar country. We started on the other side of the river, which is down there about 2000 vertical feet.

A covey flushed kinda long, and my buddy took a shot, anyway. This bird towered out, then fluttered back to the ground and stood there with a nick on top of its head. Got knocked silly, I guess.

Wilbur, trying to squeeze out the creamy filling.

For some reason, old dead cars and pheasants always seem to go together. A hen flushed out from under this one.

Thanks guys. It's a lot of fun, if you like hard work. They don't call them devil birds for nuthin. Shooting at a target accelerating down hill is something to get used to, as well.

These are NE Oregon. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of birds we found. Nothing like I hear about upper Midwest numbers, but decent shooting.

Cool! Wilber is my buddy's dog. If he's awake, he's hunting, pretty much. I think this past year may have been his last chasing birds.

Awesome mountain pics. Never hunted like that. Flatlander.

I have some pics...but they are so old.
Used to hunt pheasants here in central Illinois back in the 70's and 80's when we had lots of wild birds.
Thought I was going to save tail feathers and sell them for a buck a piece and buy a Browning so I saved feathers off of every rooster I shot. Two or three grocery sack-fulls. Then I found out it's illegal to sell them. But, but, they have them at the Michael's store? Off tame birds...ahhh.
Rats!

Haven't bothered trying to get pheasants anymore because farm chemicals, plowing all the way up to the roads, cutting down every hedgerow, and the weather knocked 'em silly for a while. THEN the deer herd moved into my area...the yotes followed and now the skunks are hiding in town to keep from being eaten. Yeah, that bad.

Tell me how the modern farmer cares about how what he does to affect the environment. I've watched the whole modernization thing from when people were using little 4-row corn-pickers to now. Makes me sad.

I grew up hunting pheasant in the same area as you AB. I still try whenever I get a chance...farm chemicals don't scare me!

The sad truth is that there just aren't many birds in the area any longer. By the time I am able to take my kid(s) out, it won't be in the same place that my grandfather took me...

Lots of pheasants in Pa and not too far away from the peoples republic.

Yup. Lots of fun with a dog. They hold really well and are great practice. I missed the flight this year up north though.
