Though I suppose snipe and rails might also qualify, woodcock are the only commonly considered "upland" birds left in this part of the country, and we've hit them fairly hard this year. But it's tough to get an interesting picture of a brown flushing dog working in good woodcock cover:

Not good conditions for a great pic. That is another bird I would like to hunt, need to mark it off my list.

I brought my 20ga out for a walk and we found a few snipe along the marsh edges as the snow started to pile up. Dog was stoked I actually hit one.

When Indian Bayou was still a private deer club, I had friends who belonged just for the woodcock hunting and had a lot of fun there. Also hunted Sherburne fairly often when I lived in Lafayette, too. Both were much less north wind dependent than where I hunt outside the Basin, now.

One year a fellow gave me three 5 gallon buckets of 20ga lead shells his dead father had hoarded, and I burned a lot of them while tracking my shells per 8 snipe limit taking shots as they came, rather than cherry picking. Think the best may have been something like 18, but I seem to have blacked out the worst...

I took four shots at two snipe and got one using steel 7s. Usually I only get one shot at a bird, but I whiffed three times on one that got up out front and kind of circled me. The next one I got my shot in early and hit her before she zagged. I miss a whole lot more of them than I hit.
