I hunt doves if any of you count that as upland. I have never seen a wild pheasant before, only raised them.

Pheasants dissapeared here right when I was grunting old enough to hold a gun. Starting to make a little comeback but Still haven't shot a wild pheasant...yet. Gonna put a lot of te in next season to hopefully get a MI rooster.

The 4 years I was in Michigan, each year I saw one pheasant a year, and every time it was within about a 1/2 mile radius of the last sighting, so I'm pretty sure it was the same bird every year. Always heard quite a few close to one of our honey holes, but never saw one to kill during season.

AB should be able to attest that East Central IL was a hot spot for pheasant several years ago. I grew up walking with my grandfather and his buddies, and would get to see limits for 4 guys in less than 2 hours. By the time I was allowed to carry a gun, we would still see birds, but not they way I remembered.

The last time I shot a limit of wild IL Roosters (2) was opening day of 2010, and that was the first time in the 3 years before that. We had a two man limit, all come from the 3rd field that we walked. We saw only one bird before we killed out limit, and he busted 100 yrds out...

There is NOTHING like a wild Rooster exploding out of a field a few feet in front of you. It amazes me evey time I see it happen. I have a hard time comprehending that a bird that big and colorful can hide as well as they do.

Well Nuff, they were/are technically an invasive species.

One of the few introduced animals in the US that actually haven't fucked anything up yet.

I like them both, same with deer hunting. I like an equal balance of all 3 through the fall.

I go pretty hard about all my hunting, but if I could only do one, it would be upland. Nothin better than chasing pheasant or huns behind a good dog.

You obviously haven't talked with any sharptail hunters. I'm sure the lack of habitat is more to blame, but those birds have done nothing but drop since the pheasant was introduced.

Pheasants also hurt the turkey population, they can carry some disease or something that turkeys can't handle.

Quail really only have strong populations in south and west Texas now days. Not a very common bird for most of the state.
