When I was in the desert, my daughter, then 3, was my "bird dog". She loved it- I'd shoot one, and she'd hop up out of her little fold-up chair, and I'd send her, even down to using hand signals. We had a blast. Didn't have much money, so it was a HUGE plus when we got our limits. We'd stop on the way back into town and she'd get the hot dog and soda she earned by "fetching" doves all morning. Good times. She'll be 8 this fall, and still talks about those trips outside town to go dove hunting. The story she tells most is of the tarantulas crawling past her chair (which happened quite a bit- there were tons of them down there in southeast AZ), which she got a huge kick out of, believe it or not. She'd throw little pieces of sticks off the mesquites I had her set up in at them, to get them to rear up on their back legs. She thought that was a hoot
