Preseason '26-'27

Preseason '26-'27

Postby Duck Engr » Wed Aug 05, 2026 11:53 am

I'll kickoff my 2026-2027 preseason log with an apology for being late on getting the logs going and thanking you guys for your patience, particularly Marsh Bear who requested a log over a month ago. I've had a lot going on in life as Rick surmised and it's stretched me to my limit. I've gone from "eh i dont have priorities, i just do everything" to "dang, i better figure out this priority thing, quickly."

Onward to hunting season, which ties into my summer of being an adult. I drug my feet on this for a long time (too long in hindsight), but I had to sell my 3 year old german wire hair, June, a few weeks ago. (she now lives in Wisconsin, where she has already enjoyed a few mornings in the 50s and is loving every minute based on pics and reports) June "nipped" my oldest son twice while she was living loose in the house (the first of which was mostly my son's fault), so i had endeavored to keep her completely separated from the kids. That worked pretty well for a few months until one of them let her out one day, my 3 year old son let her in the house, and i turned the corner as he was trying to tackle her. I think we were a few seconds from disaster. That finally was the wakeup call I needed, so off she went.

So, i'll be dogless this season. Biggest wet blanket i think it'll put on me is dove season. She was doing exceptional on doves. I haven't even really prepped the field. I think Beau and I will chase blue wings a couple more mornings than we would have otherwise. Time to drag the boat out and get it tuned up too, speaking of.

Very sorry to hear of you dealing with that tough predicament but feel you absolutely made the right call with your dog.

Easy for me to say given I've had my log for a good few weeks now but I highly doubt anyone on this site would believe we needed an apology, everyone's got life going on so thanks again for all you do each year for us.

Onward to hunting season.......
