The first person I heard blow a call, my dad, was awful at it but he tried very hard to get me that first duck.
Later on my own I heard guys with them deep loud olts and wished I could sound like that. Took many years to figure out what is what. Theircommitted10 helped me a ton.
I knew what sound I wanted but getting there was rough and expensive.
I started with cheap ten or twenty dollar calls.
Double reeds.
Haydel, yentzen, and uhhh... Lohman.
Couldn't use a single until I won a contest and the prize was a Throwback duck call and a goose call too.
The throwback was like magic I'd tried every call I had on 5 million mallards. No luck. Last resort...throwback.
Immediately I started killing greenheads and yeah I love them throwback calls. Hedge is best.
It's no guarantee but I've broken high ducks with ease like it's a daisy cutter.
Loud where it echos off trees.
At first I was like "this can't be right it's so loud and all the echos off trees".
Thats the ticket.
They have to hear u.
I'm gonna try a two reed cutdown this year.
Been playing the deceiver and I think I could run that and kill ducks. That cheap double sounds great but only with the right colors of electrical tape on.
