What was your first call?

Postby The Duck Hammer » Mon Feb 25, 2013 12:47 am

My first duck call was a Rich-N-Tone II that my grandpa gave to me. It used to sit in the bottom of his gun cabinet and I used to get it out and play with it. He never really was into duck hunting that much, more of a quail hunter back in the day. One day I was playing with it and he told me that he would never use it again and it was mine if I wanted it. That was the beginning of the obsession. Here it is.

Not sure which is first one. I think the Faulk's with the paint wore off. That Lohmann's on the front left might be it.
NO, the Olt model 66 is not for sale. ;)

Commander Clasic.... Pretty lame, and literally the worst sounding call I have had.

First call I ever had was a sure shot plastic something or another with metal reeds that I got at a youth wood duck house building event WAAAYYYY back when. It is engraved by a couple of the local sports shop owners (the Burger Brothers if you remember that store Assa) saying "good hunting" and the year but I can't remember what year it was. Not a horrible sounding call, but I learned the basics on it many years ago. Still have it rolling around the truck/boat/blind bag/hunting tub somewhere.

Ok, maybe it didn't have metal reeds. It looks like this but with a different sticker on it (and engraving obviously)

Also, the reeds inside it look like this with the two rivets

(that's why I thought they were metal I think)

While we are on the subject of Sure-Shot Yentzens it should be said that the Sure-Shot Game Call Company patented the two-reed duck call way back in the 50's. That call is historical for that reason. Every serious call collector should have at least one Yentzen.

I think I paid ten bucks for mine but it was back in the 80's when that was a half-tank of gas.
