Who sells just inserts?

Buddy up in Canada made a barrel for a call. He just took an insert from one of his other calls for that one, but was wondering how much they go for down state side. I'm not sure which companies sell just the inserts or where you'd get those from.

Don't know, but I'm sure alot of custom call makers would sell just an insert if you requested one.

I'm not a call nerd, so have never really gotten into this stuff. But I will say, it has always seemed odd that they sell the guts. Seems like they'd want to keep that sort of thing "proprietary" or something. Sure, you can have the guts- packaged inside a $150 call.

Probably more about making a buck where ever they can, but it does seem a little odd.

You would have a lot of pissed off people then. I was told the reed and cork in my DC should be replaced 1-2 times every season.

We have a 3 month season, I hunt atleast 5 times a week. Sometimes the corks need changing once a week, depending on use. If the cork starts getting a little loose, change it. I buy sheets of mylar and cork from http://www.hutproducts.com/departments.asp?dept=105 I also bought one of there wood duck call kits, makes a really good wood duck whine.

Try looking up duck call inserts with your web browser and see what comes up. There are many places to buy just an insert. Look up duck call building kit... they have those too. Go figger.
http://www.thogamecallsstore.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=53
http://www.echocalls.com/Duckinserts.html
http://brooksidegamecalls.com/doublereedduckcallinserts.aspx
http://www.kwackwacker.com/duckcallinserts.htm

That'll do ya...

When it comes down to it...there are two type of duck calls.
J-frame single reeds and custom-insert double reeds.
A Yentzen is a good example of the second type. (They invented and patented it)
There is not a whole lot of variation in them. I've compared brands.
My cutdown call...you can't tell it's cut other than it's just a bit shorter than all my other j-frame calls.

What REALLY matters is how big the hole is. (bore)
Bigger is louder.

Osage Orange is Hedge! I'm ordering a couple of those to go with some inserts.
I think I'm going to have to build some calls. Tuning them is where the "money" is at.
Like I said, they are all pretty much the same.
I have seen hundreds of calls with them ECHO inserts.

The ones I am talking about there are woody calls. They make the wood duck whine sound. Works pretty good. Bois d' arc is also hedge!

Call or email them and tell them that you want a wooden insert for it.

I'd be afraid to call Beebe, Arkansas and ask for a wooden insert.
They might misunderstand and, ya know... insert wood.

Good idea on the call, I hear they are very nice to deal with.

Acorn, remind me to never bend over in front of you!

Rick at Echo is a great guy to deal with.

I sent him on the hunt and he's picked a couple things. Told him to let me know what he finds and I'll order it since border crossings are expensive for packages apparently.

I have two RnT calls on my lanyard. Timbre and Short Barrel.
I got the Timbre last spring..maybe the one before. Not sure but I am sure I paid only $19.99 for it.
That call is no longer available but now that I'm thinking about calls and someone like TK who is just starting on single-reeds...I'd say get a Timbre. Out of all the RnT calls I tried that one is the easiest to drive. I can make it bounce and all kinds of things. It's a great place to start.

RnT makes a whole series of "cheaper" calls called 'the hunter series'.
If I had it to do all over again I'd start out by getting a couple of those calls.
I started out by buying a Daisy Cutter which is like driving a concrete truck when compared to a MVP or that Timbre call I use.
I ended up selling the DC because it was too much for me to handle. Not a good choice for a guy switching from double to single reeds.

Now that I've leaned how to drive...I wish I has the DC back. (kinda)
Anybody have a wooden daisy cutter to trade for a wooden short barrel? I'd do that in an instant.

I recently aquired an RNT Original. Man is does it sound good. I think this is going to me a good call for me. I am working on getting better. Its defiently easyier to work than any other call I have ever tried...and its a single reed. Glad I made the switch.

My first single reed is a RNT DC and I agree with you AB. I got it about a month ago it's not an easy call to blow. But I figure one I get it I should be able to blow most other calls pretty well.
