Historic duck calls

Sure-shot Yentzen is the first double-reed call. They patented it.
There are Olt duck calls that are historic besides the D2.
The model 66 is a good example.
Remember my first duck-hunts with my father in 1975. The calls he used had reeds like a musical instrument. I mean they were made out of reed. If one went bad...we were done calling with that call.

The east coast hunters have other and possibly more historic calls simply because there are more people there. They probably have some historic duck clubs out there as well.

Have had many calls. If I had to pick one, an old school one, I would use the Olt model 66 duck.
Up close it sounds awful but I know that is what does it. It compares to my CCC Throwback and sounds remarkably like it. If it weren't so old, I'd have it in my bag.

You bring up a good point. It's good to hear something farther away. A friend was blowing some shitass call a few weeks ago. We were giving him hell telling him to throw it in the bay. Then I was about 40 yards out picking up a duck and he blew it. Sounded completely different, and pretty damn good.

You should listen to a call being blown when you are sitting in reeds. Sounds like shit even though it sounds good sitting next to it

I LOVE testing out a call standing about 50 yards from leafless timber. The echo is what I listen to.
