Finished my first one today. Thing sounds like shit, kinda like a BG Mallard Magic. Guess I will have to start over.

Atleast you're doing it and can somewhat make it sound ducky. Mic the different measurements of the toneboards on some other calls to give yourself a starting point.

I think I am going to try and make a jig based on some of my other calls. I cut this one freehand and I think that may have something to do with the crappy sound. Just don't tell any real call makers, they get pissed over this kind of stuff. :D

Well I have been messing with the call for a few hours now and have it sounding better. Used a dozen different reeds and tried setting it up three different ways before I got where I am now.

Forget about designing your own tone-board. Nobody does.
They're all copies of copies of copies of Olt's D2.
Just get one and copy that. Reverse engineer a jig.
Until you do that, you're wasting time imo.
Even if you miraculously come up with the right curve it'll be so much like that D2 if you did it right... that you may as well just start there. Re-inventing the wheel.

The materials is what you experiment with. Starting out with pine 2x4's was brilliant!
