You should ask Red. It makes him feel special when he has something to do.

It's really not. There are some bad threads in Hawaii, but there are a lot of good ones too.

Echo makes a fine call that's under $50.

Just because my lanyard cost an incredibly stupid amount now doesn't mean I kill ducks. ;)

So true.

Wrong but close.

A two reed call is great for calling ducks. They dont do much as far as range of noises you can make but will make the sounds you need to kill ducks.
Most ppl start with double reeds, get bad habits like blowing way too hard, and fail miserably when they pick up a single reed call.
Thats why Im saying you should go buy a hunter series timber call from RNT.
They are $40, single-reed, bouncy, fun littlle calls.
Master that and then buy a more expensive, louder version of the same call.

In general, the RNT calls all sound alike with different volumes of loudness.
Look at the bores. Small is soft and big bores are loud.
You really only need ONE duck call to kill mallards, teal, and whatever else you shoot.

AB, you might want to know that the Timber Hunter is actually just a more expensive, wooden barreled, version of the Quackhead Timber: http://www.mackspw.com/Item--i-RNT015 Same poly insert providing most of the tone quality and most certainly more of it than someone thinking "the RNT calls all sound alike with different volumes of loudness" would ever notice.

I only used that Timber, the short barrel got stolen, a daisy cutter, and an MVP.
If I had the money would totally get an MVP for myself. I'd use two calls. The CCC throwback and a MVP.

From my experiences...a good meat call sounds awful up close.

My favorite non-duck hunting activity is to get my calls and drive on Green Street up on Campus blowing calls.
The buildings are basically glass on both sides of the street and the echo bounces back and forth. Its extremely funny watching all the Asians start drooling...then they see Milo with his head hanging out the window and REALLY start drooling.

Only two calls are needed:

Wingsetter whistle

and

The call of the wild.
