It is a good looking call. Sounds good too but my ph2 is still my favorite.

I actually had a ph2, and it was a great call after I played with the reeds a little bit. I wound up letting my 2yr old have it, along with a Primos wench and somehow the ph2 has vanished.

I use to blow nothing but SureShots. Now I have four calls on my Lanyard, Haydell Squealer, Haydell Red Leg, Big River walnut, Cutt Down, all double reeds. I like the Cutt Down and Big Rive on windy days. I keep the Sure Shot on a ingle Lanyard and use it on quiet days when the mallards are spooky. Ned S the young 83 yr old.

Ned , I certainly agree with you on the Cut-Down call for reaching out , I also like the DR 85 for close in birds , it seems to quiet them down and kind of puts them on a string .

i'm looking forward to communicateing with you , when you have time ?

Sureshots are great calls I learned to call ducks with the sureshot Yeltsin my friends still remember that old cigar shaped call.

I have a whole lot of duck calls. Olts and Haydels.
Sure-shot Yentzin is a one-time favorite of mine.
Killed a lot of ducks with Faulk's WA-11 duck calls.
I went thru a RnT phase and tried them.
I kept the Timbre and Short Barrel but tuned 'em a little different.

My go-to-call is the CCC Throwback. (single reed large-bore) It's very loud, raspy, and super-ducky. Sounds and drives very much like cut-down calls costing 3-5 times as much.
Guided for people who first would comment on how it's the loudest call they have ever heard...then mutter something about how we're in a timber blind etc.
I'd ignore them and keep blasting it out. It works or I wouldn't say it.

I'm not so sure about there being "quiet" days. The ducks I hunted this season seemed to like being commanded and directed with volume.

Two things that make the ducks respond.
1) You have to do more than just blow a call. You have to grunt or make some kind of noise. I found that the ducks respond to that and..#2
2) Wrap your hand around the end of a duck call kind of the way you do a goose call. Let it build up a tiny bit of back-pressure before you open your hand and un-cork the bottle so to speak. The KU-wacks it makes when you do that are very crisp and the ducks respond to that. Learn to do it on each and every quack...see what happens.

Once you got them hooked and on the right line...start with the random cut-feed chuckle. Then KILL 'EM!

I rarely call at all. When I do, it's with my Sean Mann Double Trouble. Which also happens to be the only duck call I have. Mostly I just use the whistle when I feel the need to call.

Try adding about 100 feet of conduit to the whistle and maybe you'll get that pintail.
I called one into a timber-hole on opening day this year. Let a kid shoot it because it was his first Arkansas hunt.
What a fluke! The first duck on opening day was a bull pintail in a timber hole where the water was 10 feet deep.

My go to call has been an os dc or an echo timber depending on situation. I have found myself reaching for my mvp more often than my os dc this past season. I just got a mondo, first so called cutdown. I really like the sound of it and it may replace my timber depending on how the birds react to it.

I'll probably try another DC. In the past three years I learned more about calling and calls than the previous 30 combined. Arkansas people take their calling serious. Couldn't help but have some of it rub off.
The kids I hunted with were 30 years ahead of me on calling but way behind on timing. I cringed every time they'd blow a perfect highball...only the ducks are directly over our heads.
Next year I'm ditching those guys. :scooter:

I know. Poor calling can actually work but poor timing don't.
