I had a few from an estate sale, though nothing as nice as that pictured. Just wood and brass and plastic and brass. Worked just like Dan's post says.

Friend of mine's dad has a big collection of those. Interesting calls for sure.

Would you all like to see my Glenn Scobey reelfoot call that has flat tone board and a curved metal reed?

Sometimes, depends on the call.

Believe most would call the insert design "Reelfoot style".

Probably bad for sticking from spit. Know that when the Cajuns were still making calls with straight toneboards and "cowchew" comb reeds bent up off them by running the back of a hot knife down the reed to curl it, they were taught to make a habit of spitting when they picked up the call, so they'd have a dry mouth to run it.

Used to spit each time I got my call out. Another era, it was.

Or maybe an "almost-J" frame?

If you look at the Glodo family calls that seem synonymous with Reelfoot calls, I think you'll see that "L" configuration.

'Course the current generation probably associates it with Duck Commander calls, and history may know them as "Duck Dynasty style" calls...

Off topic but it needs saying. One day I complained about "drywallers" in front of my grandfather. He gave me a puzzled look so I explained it was sheetrock, gypsum lathe, and kept saying different terms. Then his eyes lit up and he said, "Oh, you mean mansard board". Apparently different locals make up their own dialects.
In cornice construction if I use the names I was taught in trade school nobody knows wtf I'm talking about. Facia, soffit, ledger, etc.
Its just a thing and sorry I blew up on some ppl over it.
Forgive me plz.
