MVP spit trap

Postby Ricky Spanish » Sun Oct 30, 2022 6:36 am

If I blow my mvp like a j-frame exactly the way butch taught it fills with spit.
Hut, hut, hut, does it.
Cutting notes with tongue touching teeth is a no-no imo.
Guys tried telling me use kak kak or cook cook.
That's cutdown style.
To prove my point I'm seriously thinking about ditching the mvp.
Talk me off the ledge I guess or...buy the damn call at full.price.
Maybe try hook hook hook?

Whats the difference? The T sound comes from the front of the mouth. K from the back. You don't actually make sounds calling but to describe how the mouth is cutting notes I used phonics. T makes a lot of spit
If someone had described it like this for me it'd have helped a lot.

I switched to cutdown style. Your throat hurts a while until your muscles build up. A cutdown call will work for building up. To do that right you have to use the K type cutoffs and beginnings of notes to get a powerful burst of air. It's painful at first.

I've got wooden calls that "go both ways". Can blow cut down or just frame style. That's very cool..

All I need are some mallard ducks.

Don't know about all that, as none of my three MVPs are sticky with my normal "whack" notes.

Do know that in order to run a heavy-reeded cutdown loud and long without running out of air, I need to change presentations and gate (for lack of a better term) the air briefly with tongue to the roof of my mouth by starting notes with a "D," or "dack" reference word. The resulting bit of pressure buildup is enough to get a .14mil reed moving indefinitely without winding me.

I have thick and thin reeds for my olt. Not sure what thickness.
Thick is do-able but so freaky loud that ppl complain.
I can fill an mvp with spit pretty fast.
Sounds great until uh oh it stuck.

Gary uses sandpaper or something to make diagonal scratches on the tone board. It's not super obvious but it's there. Helps a lot for me.

Gary's coming in December and bringing his tune-up kit and maybe I'll ask him to tweak the mvp.
Worth a try. I don't want to mess with it.
Leave the factory reed as is.
Put new cork n reed and tune. It'll be fun and maybe I will learn something.

Rick.
You triggered progress. Tried h---k..and oh yeah that feels right and is loud as hell.
It was there waiting I just never thought of hook or hawk.
Cool

According to the message boards a few could still manage it, but Doc sure tried to beat it with his big toneboard cut-outs. Never tried his double but had three of his singles, two wood and an acrylic, that didn't stick on me. Nicely made calls, but I found them "thin," for lack of a better term, and unable to hang with better sounding calls on birds. His double-reed may have been better in that regard.

(Doc is/was such a nice guy and so serious and sensitive about his calls, that I'd never have posted that if I thought there was a chance of him reading it here.)

Gasp...people get butthurt over being criticized online by board premadonnas?
Shit like being called "a pretend duck hunter"?
How is this even possible?
You get granite skin or quit.

Now if you hear an mvp in the woods going wokka wokka Wokka like fozzy bear it might be me.
