Two or one?

Postby Ricky Spanish » Tue Nov 08, 2022 6:00 am

My duck calling thing has went in circles.
The first person I heard blow a call, my dad, was awful at it but he tried very hard to get me that first duck.
Later on my own I heard guys with them deep loud olts and wished I could sound like that. Took many years to figure out what is what. Theircommitted10 helped me a ton.
I knew what sound I wanted but getting there was rough and expensive.
I started with cheap ten or twenty dollar calls.
Double reeds.
Haydel, yentzen, and uhhh... Lohman.
Couldn't use a single until I won a contest and the prize was a Throwback duck call and a goose call too.
The throwback was like magic I'd tried every call I had on 5 million mallards. No luck. Last resort...throwback.
Immediately I started killing greenheads and yeah I love them throwback calls. Hedge is best.
It's no guarantee but I've broken high ducks with ease like it's a daisy cutter.
Loud where it echos off trees.
At first I was like "this can't be right it's so loud and all the echos off trees".
Thats the ticket.
They have to hear u.
I'm gonna try a two reed cutdown this year.
Been playing the deceiver and I think I could run that and kill ducks. That cheap double sounds great but only with the right colors of electrical tape on.

I’ve heard mallard hens that I thought was a hunter running a DR-85, go figure. But those high dollar calls do look cool hanging on a lanyard. Speaking of high dollar useless shit, just got these wish books in the mail yesterday.

They work but ONLY IF YOU USE THE RIGHT COLOR TAPE.

GIEUX TIGERS.

Gather you're referencing the DR-85, as Alan Stanley's Deceiver is a single reed (often touted as the loudest of non-cutdown (.14 mil reeded) J-frames. I'm among those who've initially mistaken hens for hunters blowing DR-85s, but break out a Deceiver when my MVP can't cut the distance.

CLEARLY this call has two reeds.
Must have slipped one in to be different on this particular unmodified duck call. :qh:

Inflation strikes again. That call was around $17 last year.

I think I can remember it being $9.95 when I first started looking at calls.

Right you are. My bad on having missed, or ignored, that bit of marketing. Knew Eli, who passed some years ago, back to the '80s, when he was peddling them from a glass of water to "prove" they wouldn't stick and still count his sons, Rod and Kelly, among my friends. And they, like everyone else here where they still grace the great majority of lanyards, just call them "DR-85s".

Mine included. And indeed have held one under a running faucet then let it rip when a family friend was doubtful of wet calls, etc. functioning.

I'm guessing most folks who stick calls have thicker-than-water spit.

Come on. Put your call into water, chlll to 14 degrees, and it WILL stick solid.
Even your mighty rebel spit gets thick when it's "cold" you do remember what ice is don't you?

Ice is hard and floats in water.
Always remember that.
Ice can be sharp and cut your dogs feet too.
Don't make me freeze a call insert in an ice tray for you to blow on.
Serious now...I run them heaters and my calls hang on the lanyard tied to a TV tie strap that's looped on the roof.
My calls are "heated" and never stick until I play that damned mvp.
You want it? Cough up $150

I already have three MVPs. But if I had yours, I'd pop a fresh cork in it and probably find it fine.

They sell you a "new" call and it's been sitting on the shelf for 3 years, needs cork, and all YOU have to do is pay postage and wait for them to fix it during duck season.
You get your call back in Feruary...wait ten more months to use it and it needs cork again..
why don't they just put 20 old 3-year-old corks in the box?
I'm pretty sure you'd catch a buzz from touching it to your face. You'd get all high an shit an fall out of the blind if you even look at my calls.

I use singles that don't stick.
Wooden calls when compared to acrylic...
Acrylic sticks. Wood tends to not stick.
This one will get you ripped Rick.
Prolly packed with resins.

MVP sticks and is the worst about it.
Now you attack and say it's operator error.
Then insist. We already did the new cork thing and you convinced me that it'd work and You were wrong.
Ouch that has to hurt.
you were wrong rick..schmoooch.
One more shot: he owns three MVP CALLS BECAUSE TWO ARE IN HIS BREAST POCKET KERPING WARM.
I NEED 6.

Down here, that's often how it's intended. Though usually an expression of sympathy.

It better not stick.
Been up since 1:30 been going to bed at 5pm.
Bizarre schedule.
Rick I'll wake n bake and make a stoner post just for you.
So far I'm just still fucked up from yesterday and even on my worst most wasted smoked up day I can run mathematically precise circles around a coon-ass.

Love ya, Mike. But between us chickens, I doubt you could hold it together long enough to change a cork.
