Not sure "Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item" is an improvement over the pre-tracking days, when you could at least envision purchases already en route...

What'd you buy?
It gets even more interesting when you're tracking the charges and it says "pending".
That's good though.
Means we aint paying until it's actually on a trailer.
In reality the trailer is just downstream from the packers and that label machine.
Ever work for anyplace like Bell as a picker?
I drove a forklift and every month for a day had to pick orders. It's weird but I had a good look at how that all works.

At Bell the shipping sticker and box were done when the order was sitting in front of the packer.
Has to be weighed first.
If it's anything like Bell Sports your order is on a conveyor or at least close to the trailer.
That's good!

You bought a call.
Jonesing for it.
I'm sure you described it beautifully but I need pictures lately.
Is that it?
Ewww...nice.
Looks like it has a stepped bore too.
I'd be jonesing too.
What color you getting?

The polished brown I had is out of stock so I took a chance on matte "Riverbottom". Usually buy polished because matte burnishes and doesn't retain "like new" condition for resale through as much use as polished, but if it runs like the one I lost, it won't be going down that road.

You were correct about the step boring. Open enough by the back of the cork slot that the butt of the reed barely catches both sides.

Was hoping it'd be smooth and tapered.
White lightning has a huge tapered bore like that.
Loud as hell.

Here's a stepped bore in case there's anyone wondering what it is.
16813016774116707333063123926724.jpg

RNT is tapered.
Needs a cleaning too.

By the way ...if you merely clean the reed it will change the tone.
I had no clue. Yesterday I pulled a tone board out, went yuck, cleaned it up and it runs better.
Clean the calls.
How often Rick?
The reed gets some sort of spit buildup.

Get your call yet? now I'm jonesing for you.

Virtually certain the Singleton's exhaust is tapered, and only the tone channel is step-bored.

When a call acts up, I clean the reed and toneboard. Seldom clean the barrel and exhaust bores more than annually. But I'm not one for MoonPies and Mountain Dew in the blind...

The residue looks like that.
Used some dawn on it and a lot came off.
Must be some sort of bio-hazard that eats plastic.

Now you got me jonesing to look, just look, at a duck call.
I'll buy one and sell it for $30 less than I paid because Rick won't post a picture and I'd like to see one up close.
What color should I get?
Black?
Screw it I'll just drive to Mack's. It's a long way just to look.

Used to be argued that the solid color acrylics were slightly denser than transparent ones and, therefore better for stage use. Which is nit-picking way beyond wood densities.

More practically, I'd guess black a better choice than most when considering ease of resale. But that's just that, a guess.

(USPS tracking says my new Singleton should arrive today, serendipitously my birthday.)

I'm with yuh.
Mack's is a farther from me than you I think.
Hell its a long long way from Manilla.
I drove to Jonesboro to get the last MVP they had.
It's an illness.
MVP don't seem to have a low end at all for me.
It's either loud or don't work.

Something wrong there, as they have more top to bottom range than most, if not, anything I've ever had. My only issue there is the need to be conscious of what's in hand if it's the MVP and something surprises me out of dim LST light or dense fog. Might blow its doors off if not intentionally dialing down.

Tried and tried and it won't do soft n low.
Switch to that clear CCC and it has high and low.
I suppose that each call and reed combination is different .
I probably have the reed upside down or something.

What surprises me is the range this one has.
I put it up because it's so damn loud.
You're probably thinking I've got control issues on the mvp. Maybe that's right.
It's just way easier for me on my CCC calls.
This guy gets crazy loud but can be played soft.

Replacement for my still lost LA Cut Singleton arrived yesterday, and I dialed its tuning in this morning and took it to the country for a while. Does everything the lost one did and put the fear it might differ behind me. Life is good.

Are you sure you're not a Jimmy clone from way back?

Looks like the "matte River Bottom" LA Singleton shown on his site, except mine's now on a white string to help distinguish it from dog turds. Well, and hopefully help me keep better track of it than the last one.

Now that the call is in hand, I can tell you that the step-drilled tone channel expands from 3/16" to 5/16" under the working portion of reed and the exhaust flare begins about halfway down the cork tab. Hoping that doesn't mean there's a snapped tab in its future.

Feeling better about the matte finish that will burnish (and perhaps lessen someone's used market satisfaction), now that I know this call will do the same things the first one did in my hands and, I'm guessing, is a "keeper" that will end up bumping the Stanley Deceiver from its "way the hey up or out there" loop. Time and, of course, the birds will eventually tell that tale...

I'm imagining it now.
Lovely in the hand.
Easy on the ears.
It barks like a beast and gets all fuzzy and cozy down low. You just think "quack" and it happens.
Unbelievable.
Incredible
Amazing
(In my imagination)
Woa.
A picture is like 20 words poorly written by Betty.
A sound file would be nice.
Real nice.

Aw cmon at least blow a toot on the inferior Stanley deceiver it's displacing.
Can't hurt...
Can always claim sabotage by Betty.
Got in your bag. Spit backy bits and resin up in the reed.
Excuses galore cmon take a chance. Nobody will criticize I promise.

Google says “jonesing” was a term dating back to the sixties when the beatnik crowd was craving “Mr Jones” (heroine). Just a little fun facts on a Tuesday morning.
