General reloading

Thanks.

I've reloaded a metric shit ton of lead loads and rifle rounds, but have never loaded any steel. Getting to the end of my stash of my cheap steel loads and was thinking about starting to load those AA's since I have garbage bags full of those hulls.

A good bit of RSI loads I'm looking at call for overshot cards or felt from what I can tell. Not needed? I'm still waiting on my manual to show up but John scanned in some pages for me to look over for now.

991010 AL load is one I was looking at to try off the bat. Your take?

A lot of RSI's loads call for felt under the shot. You'll need something for those to ensure a snug fit & good crimps. Like I said, almost anything will do. I've used cotton balls and paper towels.

I don't recognize the load number you mentioned. But I'll guarantee you that I can give you a very good starting point. For a load/choke combo outta that gun. What shot sizes do you have?

John mentioned flashlight & magnet. I forgot about those. A good magnet is indispensable. If you get one of those extending pen type magnets, it'll fit down in a hull, which is a very good thing for the unavoidable situation where you dump your shot into a hull before you put the wad in. Magnet pulls the shot out of your powder and saves the whole mess from going in the trash.

It's the only thing it said under load name. Shooting factory chokes at the time from 26" barrel. Have a set of Carlson chokes by Christmas. Have preferred 3's with factory loads but have not bought any shot or anything yet. Only STEEL powder

That's the ones. Love 'em. They'll do everything from 7/8 oz zippers to 1 3/16 oz creepsters. Best hull available, IMHO, and the brass is brass, i.e., wont rust if it gets wet. .04 ain't a bad price.

It's done. Read some compliments on your load and decided its a good starting point for me. Will give me time to play with 3"ers later. Box of 500 on the way

I have to say papacharlie was way too easy to deal with. A couple emails and already have tracking info and they don't even have anything close to a payment from me. Will highly recommend them to anyone once I see the package show up.

I bought the same from popcharlie, very easy to deal with. They work great for both duck and goose loads. I also buy cases of gold medals when they are on sale at Rogers, along with rebate have gotten them for $56, divide with friends and keep hulls.

How many times can you load the lightnings in a the same hull? Saw somebody say once on another site but did not say in the manual.

I typically won't load more than twice, sure you could go further, as long as your crimps don't weaken.

Look your hulls over real good flight, after a second firing, sometimes after a first you will get cracks around and at the folds of the crimp.

Gotcha, is this average life expectancy across the board for hulls?

Wayyyy better. 2nd Lts are borderline fluffers.

Middle of the pack.

Middle of the pack.

Guess I shouldn't say middle. They are O-6, highest is O-10. O-6 is about as high as a typical officer will ever achieve. O-7 - O-10 are all general spots and chances are, you will never talk to one unless you are in Intel, personal friend, or you are a LtCol, or Col about to get your ass handed to you.

Light colonels, as a rule, are dickheads. Bird colonels, in my experience, are pretty good guys.

They need to be dicks to get anywhere. As a general rule from my experience, 1LT is the start of the dickhead trend, and it ends within a few years of becoming a full bird. Only to come back again at MajGen

I would agree with that. Except for Majors. Majors who know they're at their limit may as well not even be in the military.

That's the truth in the Guard, never noticed while I was on active duty. Tried staying far away from the majority of them. I do know where you are coming from though, I have an uncle that retired a Major. I think he was a mMajor for his last 10 years. Was more like an E-4

Make sure to give all your iffy loads to to BrewGUN. It's tradition.
