.28 gauge shell or putting pressure on the load or does something more readily available do the job?

Putting pressure on te load, what you mean? Wad pressure?

Yeah wad pressure applied over the shot. My crimps worked out better when I put wad pressure on top of shot with the crimp end of a loaded .20 gauge she'll by hand.

I use a small plug (I made it out of a glue bottle cap or something) shoves into my drop tube on my press so I can note the pounds I'm applying to get the best crimp

I'd show you a pic of my garage but the boxes of hulls stacked up might be too much for you to handle. This reloading thing is like crack

As I have previously posted I use Llightning Steel Rev 2 recipes #2, 14, and 35 for 7/8 oz loads. 14 I reload once and then pitch the hull. Also I shoot 1 oz loads in #6 and 36. I use Rio Primers in Rio hulls as they are .003" bigger than the Cheddite which is .001" bigger than the American primers.
Also Mid South Shooters, 800-272-3000 has Hornadys Powder Dispenser for Sale for $164.24 reg $218.82 accurate to 0.1 gr. This is a great buy. I now use a Lyman Dispenser, which really speeds up steel loading. Seriously thinking about getting one of these. Ned S

FS, Im glad you're getting into reloading and asking some questions. ;) I have been doing a lot of reading and research on reloading. I am seriously debating on getting into it myself. A lot of good knowledge here, and I am learning quite a bit from your questions as well.

Dive on in man it's addicting.

You'll know you have it bad when your wife is out of town ad your burning through load data instead of skin flicks....
