When my father died a few years ago, I loaded some of his ashes, mixed with shot, in shells for my two brothers, their sons, and my cousin. That November, he went pheasant hunting with us in Iowa one last time. We cooked a lunch in the field, held a brief ceremony and fired his ashes over a pheasant field. Somewhere on my computer I have a photo of 6 of us firing his ashes over the field. I carry the empty round in my upland vest.
