when you find a load that you like and patterns well, then play with buffer. Overshot cards are ok with hevi shot, meh, I haven't shot enough patterns with them to say for sure they screw up your pattern, but I can say that the loads I couldn't get a good crimp without them were too much trouble to screw with

Loaded up some of your 1 1/4oz 35gn loads with #1 shot. With 4 slits 1/8" from the base I was getting a 73% pattern at 40 yards with 93 hits in a 30" circle. This was an average of 3 shots and all were very consistent with each other. Same load with 4 slits 1/4" from the base I was getting 77% and a nice even pattern. Was very impressed with them. Gonna load up some more and mess with them some more this weekend.

I did the same loads with 3 slits, and they sucked balls. 60% patterns with huge holes in them.

This is the slit that's 1/8" from the base.
The 1/4"slit is basically the same only a little tighter.

This is one from the 3 slit loads.

Got a couple loads from status of steel with ranger wads, just haven't done much patterning with them yet.

If the 3s pattern anything like the 1s I'm gonna have to open up my choke for the ducks though.

Try an IC choke. Some of my patterns evened out better than the mod.

You ever load any of the 1 1/16oz loads with the Ranger Plus? Try it with #1s.

i load that same load with 3's,2's and 1's for snows mainly but do shot it at ducks for last shot on windy days.

i have two win superx2 that i shoot that load in with 1's ect one shot perty close to your paterns so i took extended mod out and put LIGHT MODIFIED in and that evened it out and made one heck killer load with all shot sizes. the other superx2 shot just about the same as light modified , pattern just little tighter but was even with no holes but i had carlsons extended mod choke. was same choke that was in the first gun that had to take it out and went down one choke constriction(go figure worked in one gun and not the other).

I have seen that the Ranger Plus likes a slightly more open choke compared to other wads. A LM gives me good 40 yard killing patterns.

Thats kinda why I've been waiting on the ranger loads. All I have is a mod and full right now. Gonna pick up an IC or LM week. Getting real good patterns out to 50 yards with jehlers load and a mod choke. I think some gooses are gonna die by that next weekend.

For geese only those should give great patterns, tighter than what I care for when ducks are mixed in.

Right now I'm just trying to get a goose load figured out so I can get some made up for the early season. I'll mess around a lot more with duck loads through sept.

I usually don't get geese mixed in when I'm duck hunting either. So I'm not trying to make a "best of both worlds" load. Is a goose comes in close during duck season 3s should do just fine on it to about 35 yards or so.

I've killed a bunch of geese with that load and #1s. The 1oz load gives some good patterns also, I really like both with #3s for ducks.

What load did jehler give you using the lbc wads? I have a bag I need to use up.

Jarbo you have any issues with that ranger wad being a little to tall?

I do with these loads, they need trimmed. Good fit in 1 1/8 or 1 1/4oz loads. Fio hull with 38gns STEEL and 1 1/8 #3 makes good load.
There's no give in the RP wad.
