Putting in an order to BPI, and want to get some stuff to get to work on some upland loads. I don't know the first thing about lead. What are good hulls...wads...powder...overall loads?

I used to load Winchester AA hulls with and ounce and three eights of #5 that left the muzzle at 1330 fps. It was deadly on ducks and geese but overkill on pheasants. I would thing one and one quarter ounce of #6 lead shot would work well for most upland game, #7 1/2 for dove and quail. I found that AA hulls were the easiest to reload, were very abundant and almost any 2 3/4" load would fit with the proper wad.

What kind of powder? These will mainly be grouse loads, but I'd like to push a fairly heavy load to get through the thick brush.

Long shot lead loads make a very satisfying pow, lot sharper crack then your buddy's store bought loads

I like 1 5/8 of 6 and an open cylinder choke for my grouse loads, usually only see the bastards for a split second and shoot where you think they are going to be.

Long shot definitely has a different sound to it, they don't boom, they crack. I use it for a few steel loads also.

That needs a 3" shell right? This is kinda like what I was looking for. Either my shots are 30 yards or less in cover you can barely walk through, or 40+ yards in the oak ridges.

If getting from BPI, get some MG42/STS wads if you want heavy loads. They also make some really good steel loads. PM me your email, I'll send you some data.

If you have BPI Status of Steel manual, the MG42 is the STS wad.

Hot as in fast...Like "coming in hot"

Yup. Just means it a magnum load.

Yea, not for the weak. I loaded a few for fun, the Fed 1.5oz at 1500 produced some amazingly good patterns. Seems like most pagoda loads pattern well.
