Reloading Brass

Ok, it's been brought up a couple times, so I'm going to put this out there. I've Googled and Googled and Googled, and haven't got very far.

Can someone point me in the right direction to find a couple (and by "couple" I mean about 10) recipes for reloading 5.56, 55 gr FMJ? Specifically, the powders which I can use. After looking on some of the AR forums, there really aren't very many powders listed, and there's an awful lot of crap to sort through to even find those.

My concern is, sure I can get the equipment and brass, but all of the powders I've searched have been nonexistent, as have been the primers. As for what I've searched, it's been Win748, AA2460, Alliant AR, RamTAC, and something that starts with a V. The primers were 209s and CCI magnums.

What I'm hoping to find is some recipe which uses a powder which I can find in at least 2 places. The primers, not too sure. Honestly, it looks like in this environment that unless I already have a pretty decent store of powder and primers, it's going to be damn near impossible to do, simply from a lack of material.

Not looking for actual recipes, just a resource which lists the recipes. Like an online cookbook, for fuck's sake. Apparently, that's the hardest thing in the world to find. And if I can buy FMJ for .55 a round or so, will it even be cheaper for me to reload?

What u seek is called a Reloading Manual. You can find them where finer sporting goods are sold.

Is "WSR" "winchester small rifle" primers?


I've found some powder, it appears. Maybe it is possible. Still looking at it to see if it's feasible.

Make me a short list, TK- what would I need to reload .223 as far as equipment? That's all I'm looking to do- just .223.

Small rifle primers still hard to find? Just reread your post yep sounds like around here. Components get bought up as fast as fast as 22lr

You may find bullets are harder to come by than primers. I'll look to see if people figure a load that uses non standard components

I think I've found two recipes, with two different powders. I've found plenty of bullets and brass, even primers. The powder is pretty limited, though. Looking at it, there just seems to be way too much money in the equipment, especially when I'm loading for plinking, not performance. Looks like it'd run me about 35-40 cents a round (at current prices), plus equipment. I can buy 5.56 for 50-55 cents. So to offset the cost of the equipment, I'd have to reload about 200,000 rounds before I started seeing any sort of return. I suspect I'll just keep buying rounds.

Take more with the rounds I have now. I think of it like seeds for the garden. I may only have 100 bean seeds, but those 100 seeds give me the ability to have 30,000 seeds next year.
