What does it cost you?

What does it cost you?

How much are you reloading target shells for? I figured the cost out to be this:

Reclaimed Shot=$3.39/box of 25

Brand new west coast magnum shot=$4.59/box of 25.

Tell me what you have and prices for components.

When you say "reclaimed shot", does that mean what I think it does?

Yep, picked up shot from te trap and skeet fields. Most professionals will sift it thoroughly to remove any rocks an such, the re-drop it. Plus use magnets to get all the steel out. It's a love-hate kind of deal. I like the price of it for a 25 pound bag, which only costs me $25.

Seems like a lot of work to save someone $0.05/shell. I wonder how they turn a profit...

Selling it at a buck per pound doesn't sound very profitable to me.

Now take it at it only costs them maybe $0.65 per pound. They sell it to gun clubs for $0.85, the club sells it for $1.00 for a pound. Keep in mind that they normally sell them by the big steel drum(3,000 pounds). And then consider they do it at that price nation wide. They're making money, clubs are making money, and you're reloading at a significantly cheaper price.

Well they're getting about $2,500 for 3,000 pounds. On a trap field that has only 4 traps, and is used regularly, they'll get about 3,000-5,000 pounds. Now if you were to reclaim lead at say the world recreation shooting g complex where there is 120 traps, you're looking at some serious money.

They calculate/know/measure the distances of how far 7.5s/8s with travel. Then go in with so heavy equipment and take off the top soil.

Then they put it in a sluice box and employ the 49er's.

They should throw out some big ass tarps before the shoots. Then just fold em so all the shit is in the middle and scoop it up. Seems a lot easier than mining for it.

It don't make a difference to me. I'll pay $25 for 25 pounds of reclaimed instead of $42 for 25 of new shot for praactice/screwing around.

I could see that. There's some funky shit in those shells. Most of it looks like they went into a welding shop and picked up all the slag from under the torch.

Good thing I'm happy with my pecker. Otherwise, I'd have to spend a lot more money on a shotgun than I did.

what you fail to see is the cost to obtain all this lead.i bet they pick up cans along the highway for a nickle too.
whats it cost to make the lead round again? time gas and everything. that 3000 lbs of lead would take a long mother fucking time to pick up.or are they going all gold fever and setting up a sluice box and running heavy equipment out on the trap field?
maybe they got a cart like at driving ranges where guys aim right for the poor sap out picking up golf balls.

If they put Todd Hoffman in charge of the operation, they'd get enough lead for a half a box of shells, and those shells would cost $46,033.

I know at the old trap range here they had to pay to have the shot picked up, that's how they are making the money, it is worth more to loaders than the scrap yard evidently
