Anyone reloading?

Who will be doing some reloading this season? Trying to give this thread a jump start. Here is the makings of one of my duck loads.

After inspecting for cracks or damaged brass, hull was resized and reprimed.

After getting powder from auto dispenser, double checked with another scale to ensure accuracy, it was then placed in the hull.

Install wad and felt if necessary, I compress these to at least 100# when using STEEL powder.

Measure proper amount of steel shot, pour into wad.

This load does well with a OS card placed on top of the shot.

Final crimp, they are very important in quality steel reloads.

What does the card on top do? Excuse my ignorance (and what is probably a very basic question), but I've never seen one in a factory load before.

It is used more for proper fit and crimp, I do not use them in every load. This particular load does well with the card in it, my goose loads on the other hand do not.

When you say "do well", do you mean the pattern/performance, or the getting the crimp right? (Which I suspect plays a part in performance, but you know what I mean)

By "does well" I am talking about pattern and performance. That is always the mist important.

Try ditching that overshot card and dropping your wad pressure down to 30 or so to get the crimp right. I hate overshot cards, play hell on my patterns

Every time I think about reloading, I just read some of you alls posts, and go to Walmart and buy another box of Xperts. Not enough hours in the day for me to figure out all that alchemy.

it's like making pickles, takes a bit to get it right but it's not that hard

I do not use them in many of my loads, this particular one seems to like them when loaded with 4's and 3's, does not like them with bigger pellets.

O/S cards of the frangible plastic or the paper wad stock kind are required for RTO crimps however, over shot on folded crimps thin Tyvek discs are sometimes used, particularly over smaller shot sizes. Lost
