One way to get your seating die in the right place screwed down ever time is with the use of washers. Simply take an empty piece of brass and drop into your seater die that is not in the press yet. Now with that piece of brass, put your shell holder on the rim on the brass just like you do when the shell holder is on the press. Now most of the time, there will be space between the top of the shell holder and the bottom of your seating die. Now either find a washer or three as in some cases to where the washer(s) fit in between that space. Now lets take a break for a minute...........
Ok, I'm back. Now take the shell holder off the case and put in the ram of your press and put your washer(s) you used to find the space between the shell holder and the die on top of the shell holder you just put in the ram and run the ram all the way up as far as it will go. Next screw your seater die into the top of the press. Screw with down with two fingers down till it touches the washer(s) and stops with minimal force from your fingers screwing it down. Not snug foen the locking nut and lower ram and go back up to make sure the washers sit flat against the bottom of the die. Just a little trick I learned from an old man that I thought would be useful to share with you guys to make setting your seating die correctly.
