What I got to look at this morning

So, the wind wasn't blowing, and the birds were rafted up about a half mile out on the lake pulling any birds that may have been flying in to them, but I didn't care. It was one of those mornings that everything was so beautiful that nothing else mattered other than the tranquillity of the lake.

Other pics from today:
Ice along the shore and zebra mussels on the rocks. That water is about 4ft deep on that picture. The water was crystal clear.

Those zebra muscles are what helped clean up a lot of our waters. 15 years ago you couldn't see in 10FOW, now you can see shipwrecks in 60'.
Granted they suck to grab/step on, they are sorta helpful. Does that mean I'm gonna go spread them? Absolutely not, but they are handy.

They also killed nearly every native clam and snail, damaged fish populations, and cleared the water so weeds and algae choked out many shallow inland lakes. Not to mention they cut the shit out of your feet. Other than all that they are pretty badass.

I'd imagine they are also responsible for the huge upswing in Sea Duck populations

we get it a couple times a year right on the coast where I'm at. But it's light and melts right away. But you go 20 min inland and they get a lot of snow in the winter months

Our lakes went to shit up north by you after the zebra muscles got in them.

That was actually ice. The wind was moving out of the north when the temp was reaching highs of about 20* which on that lake makes for pretty decent waves, so dosing up on shore and then freezing, you get this

was a lot of work spreading them, we spent most of 1993 scraping rocks and filling buckets with those little mussels and dumping them all over but it paid off, we finally have some birds to shoot now

I would've had the kids at the end of a whip for that kind of deal.
