911 Dispatcher Tells Woman About To Be Sexually Assaulted There Are No Cops To Help Her Due To Budget Cuts

Oregon Public Radio reports that an unidentified woman called 911 during a weekend in August 2012 while Michael Bellah was breaking into her place. Her call was forwarded to Oregon State Police because of lay-offs at the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office only allows the department to be open Monday through Friday.

“Uh, I don’t have anybody to send out there,” the 911 dispatcher told the woman. “You know, obviously, if he comes inside the residence and assaults you, can you ask him to go away? Do you know if he’s intoxicated or anything?”

The woman told the dispatcher that Bellah previously attacked her and left her hospitalized a few weeks prior to the latest incident. The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the woman for more than 10 minutes before the sexual assault took place.

“Once again it’s unfortunate you guys don’t have any law enforcement out there,” the dispatcher said, according to Oregon Public Radio.

The woman responded: “Yeah, it doesn’t matter, if he gets in the house I’m done.”

Police say Bellah choked the woman and sexually assaulted her. He was arrested by Oregon State Police following the incident.

“There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t have another victim,” Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilberson told Oregon Public Radio. “If you don’t pay the bill, you don’t get the service.”

The sheriff’s department even put out a press release warning domestic violence victims to “consider relocating to an area with adequate law enforcement services.”

The last one absolutely kills me. Why not "GET YOURSELF A MOTHER******* GUN AND DEFEND YOURSELF, BECAUSE WE CAN'T HELP YOU" ? Instead they tell people to MOVE? What the hell is wrong with people?

Ha! Just like everywhere else we work with a minimum staffing crew a lot due to the economy, 5 deputy's including a Sgt. For the entire county. However our office encourages CCW's and we have issued more in the last two years then in the past 10. I tell people strait up buy a gun all the time. Learn how to use it and protect yourself. Some times it may take 20 to 30 minutes for us to get there.

That's the thing- even in an ideal (or even overly) staffed PD, it's not instant service. I know it's a trite little proverb any more, but the "when seconds count, police are minutes away" thing is amazingly, astoundingly true.

I wish there were more cops like you and Red. The MD trooper who hangs out at the store drinking coffee sometimes with us in the mornings, while a pretty good guy, acts like I'm the worlds biggest incompetent jackass whenever when I mention I'd rather have my own gun than have to call the police. Tells me stuff like "that's the worst mistake you could make without the proper training". Never mind that I probably shot more rounds through my pistols in the last two weekends than he shot in the last 5 years.

Truth, sure every agency has qualifications but a life time of hunting and fire arms handling can not be replaced by a few range days at an academy and a bi-yearly department qualification. I would imagine in many big city's most cops have never fired a gun before starting an academy.

I know this to be a fact in the big city near me. I have several friends that work for the department, and most of them had zero firearms experience before going to the academy.

Im starting to understand this. If you grow up in and and reside throughout your adult life in a city you get horribly retarded and dependent.

Your a city dweller eh? Well realizing the problem is the first step, professional help is the second step. Good luck with your therapy and remember, the guys are behind you

When they say that, and I start listing off the formal shooting course I have had and my instructor qualifications, they still act shitty.

My goofy state is about to break the law by not making the ccp law in time. (federal mandate)
I wonder how that works.
Do the U.S Marshals come and arrest all the state-politicians, oh hell no.
Do they get fined?
Charged at all?
Bailiff, whack his pee pee?
