Big Rattler....

Postby Blast & Cast » Fri May 24, 2013 9:06 am

I just got this e mailed to me. Thought I would post it for the guys up north that do not have to deal with snakes.

Here in Georgia we don’t screw around with those little piss ant snakes like they have in Texas and Arizona .

Pat Long with Kadant was sitting in a ground blind with his son hunting hogs near Midway, GA. This rattler stuck its head into the blind. The son shot it in the head with a .22 pistol. 9.5' long Head is 5.5" wide Fangs are 2.5" long I think he said it had 22 rattles. It had the bones of 3 little pigs in its stomach. How many times have you walked through the woods in the dark? See attached photo.

Damn that guy's been around for a while.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams

So would that be classified as an eastern diamondback? The rattlers I deal with around here are fat and stocky with big heads.

Saw that same exact picture a month or two ago. One I saw said it was from lake Conroe here in Texas. Couldn't be true though since we only have grass snakes...

Here's a pretty fair (6'1") cottonmouth's hide:

If most anyone but the fellow holding it had told me of killing one that size, I'd of snorted. That, and I took the picture.

It'll be exhumed by experts in 5 years on discovery. Their findings will be inconclusive

I have 2 brands of rattle snakes and copper heads in my woods.

Not gonna get into a pissing match over size, lets just say I never saw a snake I didnt want to kill.

There could be 20 states claiming this snake. Just thought I would share the e mail. It is still a big s.o.b. This could turn into the famous Hogzilla bs. That hog was reportedly killed in every U.S. state.

That snake is nowhere near how big it says in the email. The kid is holding it out on a stick so it's super close to the camera compared to him, and it has 13 lucky rattles (go ahead and count them), not 20 some. Sorry, but not that crazy. Still glad that bustard is dead tho.

A buddy and I killed a cottonmouth that was around that size about 8 years ago, but may have been bigger around than the one in your pic. It looked like a danged python laying next to the mud hole. My buddy had his daughter with him and wouldn't get off his 4 wheeler from about 20 yards away, but he was steadily shooting it with his 10/22 while I tried to get closer and make sure it died. The problem was that I was having to make my way through a bunch of mud and large clumps of grass and was met by several other cottonmouths at every big clump of grass. Each one was in strike position with mouth open just waiting for me. Luckily I had my single six 22 loaded with snake shot and was able to make quick work of them. By the time I reloaded and got near the big one, my buddy had finished him off. We took pictures of the big one, using a big limb as a reference since that's all we could find, but the pictures didn't turn out good. The large limb looked like a normal stick laying next to it in the pictures. When we told others about how big it was, they swore up and down that we were crazy. I wish we would have had something to put it in to bring it out, but there was no way he was going on the 4 wheeler with my son and I or on my buddies with him and his daughter.

That's a pretty badass snake. My grandpa went on a dove hunt in Mexico and ran into a pretty big rattler. He was walking to a downed bird when he almost stepped on it. He shot it on a reflex and blew about a foot off of it. When he picked it up and held it over his head it still had a little on the ground. He is 6'4".
