I always used my fingers. Never had one of them Lah-tee-dah knives with a hook.
That's why the whole "Acorn washes his hands" thing came into being.
It's hard to get perfectly clean after digging the guts outa 30 or 40 ducks.

Those little gut hooks are made for small birds that it's hard to reach up inside - unless you just split them up the back along one side of the spine, which lets you get everything out slick as a whistle.

The flat blade on left is for boring holes in wood. Great for when you want to lash two pieces of wood together.
Classic camping knife.

I can count on zero fingers the number of times I've needed to lash wood together.

But I'd definitely keep the knife.

There have been time when I wished I could bore a hole and tie something on many times.

Usually improvise...poorly. ie blind construction.
Zip ties and a drill would be handy.

I'm a firm believer in clothespins in the blind bag. You can whip something up pretty quick to hide you with those bastards, and they're not as pricey as zip ties.

I use them too.
We need to re-invent them. Put them in a camo bag and they are worth five times the price.
Willl call them hunting pins...nevermind.
You'll miss them. lol
Hunting pins...rofl.
