Can I help?

Dont mean what it used to mean.
These days it means...I am willing to try and help, kinda, sorta, maybe, if its not too hard, or I gotta think.

Then when the helper messes up the project and gets disciplined...the blame is reversed with resulting drama requiring the dreaded, "Hug it out" scenario.

Now that I have the rules all straight...CAN I HELP?

Had an employee like that. He had to be told step by step precise instructions.
Any time he ever messed up was my fault for telling him wrong.
He'd get this puppydog look and say , "I did what you told me exactly".
We were on a roof the last time he said it.
I told him exactly to, "hop down and get your check out of my truck".
He climbed down the ladder. Halfway down I fired him for not following instructions exactly.
