how about this stroke of luck?

My buddy was asked by a WCO if he'd like to help band geese. He had to work and couldn't go, but he did find out where it was haappening...

They banded 60 in one of our honey holes! This should be a great season for us! 26 more days and it is ON!

So when you report the band, it'll show the goose migrated 53 feet from where it was banded

They band 2000+ birds at SI WMA here each year. I shot one that had been banded there one year. When you report it you can't tell that is where it was banded because they use the closest town with over 5000 population as the banded area. The closest town that big is actually a Washington city, not Oregon. The only reason I know it was banded at SI WMA that season is because the check station guys have a list of all the band numbers they banded on the island each season. It was on their list.

They will be hitting the fields up river by then. We'll pass shoot them as they head out from a spot up river, then wait at the spot for them to come back. 8 birds a day is nice, but tough to get when they move as a unit. They might move in smaller flocks, but they'll all be in the air at the same time. I'm pumped, I want to talk birds. The seasons are right around the corner.

I don't think that's always true, I'll check when I get home but I think one of my band certs lists the location as the refuge where it was banded
