My uncle is wealthy and bought one of the first radaranges.
He insisted cooking hamburgers in it was good...if you used the rotiserie and the temp. probe. They sucked. Its the only time I ever tried cooking meat in one. Dumbest invention ever, unless you live in a pure O2 environment and cant have fire.
Astronauts ate space food...cant believe the microwave story. I ate space food as a kid. My friends father was an engineer for NASA. Brought me lots of cool toys and space food. We were very cool at school lunch with our NASA packages.

Where did i get that? About 400 sites like this one.

http://www.helium.com/items/1145478-his ... owave-oven

And the very first place I heard it was in science class in 5th grade.

Even if I'm incorrect, there is obviously history with NASA using a microwave oven on space missions.

So, that's where I heard it.

As far as eating greek milk, with a two tablespoons of honey and some granola tossed in, I have a 400 calorie, fat free, cholestrol free meal that fills me up and has the RDA of protein in it. Another benefit of that lunch is I've lost the extra 8 or 10 pounds I carried around my gut. Other than eating quinoa, nuts and stuff like that, I'm left with rabbit food.I tried the vegetable lunch and was ready to pass out from starvation by the time I got dinner on the table. If you have any other suggestions for meal replacement, I do get tired of the same thing day in and day out..

I have horrible eating habits. My advice is dont take any nutritional advice from me.
Sorry to hear you cant eat whatever you want.
Had to give up lots of my favorite treats like licorice and tootsie rolls.
Cant eat jolly ranchers and a lot of other stuff that I love.
It happens.

QH's Paw wrote:Microwave factoid:
Shortly after the end of the war, Spencer was touring one of the laboratories at Raytheon. Pausing momentarily in front of a magnetron, he felt a strange sensation and noticed the candy bar in his pocket beginning to melt. Although other scientists had noticed this phenomenon, they all ignored it. Percy, however, quickly sent for a bag of popcorn. Holding it up to the magnetron, they popped within minutes.

Spencer continued his experiments with the magnetron and a few eggs. When a curious co-worker stuck his face too close to the machine, he wound up with a face full of splattered egg. Raytheon knew they had a hit on their hands and began producing the first commercial microwave ovens in 1946.

So, basically, NASA had nothing to do with it. Since NASA was not formed until 7/29/1958.

During WW2 US Navy sailors discovered they could place their meals in front of the ship's radar/magnetron to heat them up and it became a regular practice on most ships.

Yep, I found similar statements in my short search that disproved the NASA story. The statement was that while several people and instances prior to that date had similar results, Spencer was just the first to investigate why this was happening. He also improved on the construction or, rather, the manufacture of the magnatron the britts needed to whoop ass on the Krauts.

Honestly, I was just curious where Don heard that story because I'm guessing I'm older than him and have never heard that version.
Obviously, the story I had heard either isn't true or, isn't easily found. I'm guessing it is just a story, similar to the NASA story.

I've climbed towers that had microwave dishes on them and if you stick your head in front of it you got a little dizzy. Kind of like the dizzy feeling you get when if you inhale to much smoke on accident.

When ever I worked on those towers I tried to work faster then normal haha.

When we pull into marinas if the Radar antennae is rotating, even though it is in "standby" and not transmitting we will still get yelled at by dockmasters or lock tenders for not turning it off. The 72 and 96 mile radars really put out the microwaves and could possibly do physical damage to a human body if exposed over extended periods of time to their microwaves.

I've climbed on energized towers before and so many volts it makes your hair almost stand up. Will also heat any metal buttons you have on your clothes.

It's all about grounding. If you get on the tower in a way that you don't ground yourself to the earth you're fine. During training I did hear a story about a man who failed to mention he has a pace maker and as soon as he touched the tower it popped and he had a heart attack.

Go back and take another look. Don said NASA invented something that was in use and commercialized before NASA's inception. That's pretty easy to disprove.
The guy I posted about didn't invent it either, he explained it and improved on it. He did that, as a matter of history, before NASA existed.
